Asif, Talat, Afridi named in Pakistan squad for West Indies series
March 26, 2018

Pakistan cricket team's selection committee on Monday named Hussain Talat, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Asif Ali in the 15-member squad for the upcoming West Indies series, rewarding the trio for their impressive performances in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League 2018.

All-rounder Talat and middle-order batsman Asif were part of the Islamabad United side that defeated Peshawar Zalmi in the final of the T20 tournament on Sunday night.

Both performed admirably throughout the tournament but Asif Ali made bigger headlines, thanks to his match-winning 26-run clutch cameo in the title-deciding match.

Afridi, meanwhile, was one of the few bright spots of another miserable campaign for Lahore Qalandars.

The 17-year-old pacer bowled arguably the spell of the tournament when he took five wickets for just four runs in a match against Multan Sultans.

Quetta Gladiators fast bowler Rahat Ali also bowled with pace and venom, earning a recall to the national squad.

But there was no place for veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Kamran Akmal, who had an excellent tournament except the final, where he scored a solitary run and dropped a crucial catch.

Pakistan and West Indies will clash in a three-match T20I series between April 1 and 3. The back-to-back-to-back matches will be played at the National Stadium Karachi.

Why Ahmed shazad is in team ?
I also think babar azam is ODI and test player but not t20
also rahat ali is useless and has been tried many times

good to see asif ali in t20

.
How did Shoaib Malik make it into the team after the poor series
in New Zealand? Hafeez made 2 half centuries in New Zealand and has
been dropped but Malik was much worse than Hafeez.

Samuels, Fletcher named in 13-member Windies squad for Pakistan series

Cricket West Indies (CWI) on Friday announced a 13-member squad for the three-match Twenty20 International series against Pakistan from Sunday.

The Calypsos roster, led by Jason Mohammed, will feature batsmen Marlon Samuels and Andre Fletcher, who contributed to the success of Peshawar Zalmi with hard-hitting knocks in the recently concluded Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2018.

However, the team will not feature fan favourite Darren Sammy, who led the Zalmi side into the finals as skipper during the PSL. Star players Kieron Pollard and Sunil Narine, who played for Multan Sultans and Lahore Qalandars in the tournament, respectively, are also not part of the squad.

“Following the successful hosting of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) final in Karachi on the weekend, our squad are now en route to Pakistan for our three-match T20I series," a CWI press release quoted CWI Chief Executive Officer Jonny Grave as saying.

“This Tour is a further major step for our friends at the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to bring their cricket back home, and we are pleased that our players and support staff have recognised this and supported this venture.”

Grave said independent security advisors have confirmed to Windies authorities that "they are satisfied that the risk [of visiting Pakistan] is manageable and can be mitigated to an acceptable level.

Chairman of the CWI Selection Panel, Courtney Browne, said some of the players identified for selection, including regular T20I captain Carlos Brathwaite, had opted out of the tour due to security concerns.

“We had a few players that opted not to tour Pakistan, due to their or their families’ security concerns and CWI have fully accepted their position,” Browne said, adding that those players' replacements have an opportunity in the visit to push their claims for future selection.

CWI Director of Cricket Jimmy Adams and President and CEO of West Indies Players’ Association (WIPA) Wavell Hinds will accompany the squad on their trip to Pakistan.

Karachi, after successfully hosting the PSL final on March 25, is set to welcome back international cricket when Pakistan takes on the Windies at the National Stadium in T20Is on April 1, 2 and 3.

However, rumours had suggested that local fans won’t get to see the visiting side’s top-notch players. The Indian Premier League (IPL), which starts from April 7, was the reason behind the rumours.

The Pakistan squad for the West Indies series includes Hussain Talat, Asif Ali and Shaheen Shah Afridi — all of whom impressed during PSL 2018.

  • Suprised at Omission of Sahib Zadah Farhan (22 Year old) and Kamran Akmal
  • He was only 10 runs short of Ronchii's scoring pace was quite devestating with 4's in final who was going at 250% strike rate

Most amazing aspect of his performance was it was in FINAL game when pressure was high he was quit calm as cuecumber

Pakistan aim for WI whitewash to consolidate T20I top spot

Pakistan will be looking to take complete advantage of home conditions and a depleted West Indies squad when they take on the Caribbean giants in a three-T20I series starting from Sunday.

Pakistan and West Indies will face each other at the National Stadium on April 1,2 and 3, with both teams looking towards a different goal.

A 3-0 sweep will see Pakistan open up a four-point gap between them and Australia, as the former lead the latter by a decimal point at the moment.

Meanwhile, a 3-0 sweep in favour of the Windies will take them to second spot as Pakistan will lose their top spot.

The Windies, who are currently in fifth position with 115 points, will slip to 111 points and seventh position, behind England and South Africa, if Pakistan claim a 3-0 series win.

A 2-1 win for Pakistan will not change the position or points for either side while a 2-1 win for the Windies will pull Pakistan down to 123 points, just two more than third-placed India. The Windies will then be on 119 points.

WI team players were paid to play in Pakistan. So we can assume Pakistan will sweep this.

Why is Mohammad Hafeez out? Looks like handwork of dog Sethi.

BATMAN bin SUPARMAN, seems like you have joined the "curse brigade" as you quite routinely throw around curses when putting forth your point of view.

Remember the spanking you got on a different thread where you sneakily tried to edit all your posts? lol. Good times.

11 West Indies cricketers and officials arrive in Karachi

299037_1145454_updates.jpg

KARACHI: Eleven players and officials of the West Indies squad arrived in Karachi on Saturday night while the rest of the squad will arrive via another flight early morning on Sunday.

The first group of eleven members was received by Sindh Sports Minister Sardar Bux Mahar after it reached the Jinnah International Airport at 9:30 pm.

The team members were presented the traditional Sindhi 'Ajrak' by the Sindh minister after they arrived at the airport.

The guests were taken to their hotel just after they arrived at the airport.

As the West Indies cricket team could not get all seats in one flight it was decided to travel in two groups through different flights from Dubai to Karachi.

The World T20I champions will play a series of three matches against Pakistan on April 1, 2 and 3.
