Pakistan on Thursday rejected allegations in a United States threat assessment report that it provides safe haven to militant groups, warning that such "controversial statements will be counterproductive and have the potential to adversely affect the peace and stability of the region".

Earlier this week, US Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats presented a threat assessment report for 2019 to the US Senate which accused Pakistan of protecting and providing safe havens to terrorist organisations in order to "plan and conduct attacks in India and Afghanistan, including against US interests".

Coats' briefing and report on possible threats to the US in the coming year come at a time when Pakistan is playing a crucial role in brokering peace talks between the Taliban and the US in order to find a solution to the 17-year-long Afghan war.

Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal during a weekly briefing today cautioned Washington against issuing allegations which could be "harmful".

Dr Faisal also commented on the situation in Afghanistan saying that matters between the Taliban and Kabul are "their business".

"We hope that they can sit together and resolve their issues," he added. The Taliban have refused to hold talks with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani's government, branding them as "puppets".

Afghan authorities have previously complained of being excluded from the discussions in Qatar ─ where the Taliban have a political office ─ and warned that any deal between the US and the Taliban will require Kabul's endorsement.

The Foreign Office spokesperson also highlighted Pakistan's concern about militant Islamic State group activities at the Pak-Afghan border. He defended Prime Minister Imran Khan's decision to keep the Torkham border crossing "around the clock", explaining that the premier's decision was meant to encourage bilateral trade between Pakistan and Afghanistan.

"Pakistan is making the transport of imports to and exports from Afghanistan easier [by keeping the border open]," he said.

Dr Faisal said that the Foreign Office would soon release details about Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's upcoming visit to Pakistan, which he described as an "extremely important" trip.

There are clear indications that all is not well within America. It seems the Trump administration is working on a different agenda while on the other hand, the well entrenched American deep state, to which this chap Daniel Coats is part of, are going about in tangent. The constant dragging of Trump into Russian affair is a clear sign that American deep state despise him.

Pakistan needs to work with Trump, provided, there are clear and "irreversible" actions done by Trump to clip the wings of American establishment. We want America out of Afghansitan and if Trump wants the same, going against the wishes of American establishment, we should work with him.

Daniel Coats represent American deep state. Their egos are smashed with the failure in Afghansitan and seeing Pakistan become stronger with each passing day. You can work with Trump admin all you want, but unless he goes about clipping the wings of American establishment, making them sing on his tunes, we should be very careful on how much we commit ourselves in this Afghan peace process. By the looks of it, American deep state do not like Trump. Pakistan and its establishment , if they are clever, should give Trump all the ammunition he needs to fire at his own deep state.

Its such a great opportunity, a sort of role reversal, where American establishment was propping the likes of Nawaz Shareef to be a pain in the arse for the Pakistani establishment. If we are clever, we can give them a taste of their own medicine.

Actually, Pakistan is playing it smart. If it can get USA to accept the assurance that the region will not be used to attack USA again, it might just get away with "other activities" to be ignored to be carried on without US interference. That would be a huge achievement for Pakistan's policies, if it were to succeed.

It is abundantly clear the US Military Industrial Complex is not too keen to get out of Afghanistan or winding down their engagement in Afghanistan. Washington Post just carried an editorial on why US should not get out of Afghanistan and how now is not the right time to get out of there.
The US establishment wants to contain China and considers India as an key ally, including Japan and Australia for its policy of containing China in the East Asia and South Asia region. It is clear Indian concerns were included in that report to satisfy that need, however we should haste with building our border wall with Afghanistan as Trump is running out of time quickly. We must be prepared for any eventuality, our financial situation isnt very secure to begin with.
