Pakistan & USA signs agreement under the Hague Abduction Convention

Do you really think Pakistani goverment has any level of respect for life, property, and worthy of a Pakistani? Goras have more respect for their dogs then Pakistani goverment for Pakistanis. Kill a American pig and then kill 250 Pakistanis and that pig America will fight and stand for and go at any lengths to get justice for that one pig. 250 Pakistanis on other hand not a muscle will be moved for them. You're delusional if you think it is two way thing. It is one way street. Only reason America has got Pakistan signed this is because they can have legal papers when and if Pakistan refuses and take action in UN as well as get the big stick to beat sht out of Pekis.
So long as one parent doesn’t take a child away from the other parent (from the US to Pakistan) without authorization of the other parent, it shouldn’t be an issue and there won’t be any ‘stick’ to beat Pakistan with.

That is what you say, but the Americans could also exploit it. US history of treachery teaches us that Pakistanis whose children are born in the US are in big trouble.

If the children are born in the US while the parents are residing there, then they shouldn't be taken out of the US without both parents agreeing to it.

The issue is that people settle down in the US with their families (regardless of where the children are born) spend years there and then if there is a falling out between the parents, one of the parents tries to take the children back to Pakistan without the permission of the other - that is just not acceptable and not fair on the children - like I said, the courts tend to favor consistency and continuity for the children.

If a Pakistani parent wants to go back to Pakistan with the children, either convince the other parent in the US to agree to the move or go to court (likely to fail if family is settled in the US, barring exceptional circumstances) or realize that the move to Pakistan will have to be without the children.

Interesting conversation. I guess I'm very intrigued to know what would be a comparative US/ India perspective. But much more than that I just wanted to day heya AM, how goes?

Hi Eyeless!

Been a while.

I'd argue that the same applies in the case of the US & India. The question isn't really one of geo-politics as it is of parental & child rights and Parental child abduction is pretty clearly defined in most countries. This convention allows a parent who is a victim of parental child abduction legal recourse if the child/children have been taken across international borders.

It would appear that South Asian nations generally have an issue with this, possibly rooted in the patriarchal socio-religious conservatism of our societies, in conjunction with a broader mistrust of the West in terms of 'values'. Until now, Sri Lanka was the only other South Asian country to have accepted the Child Abduction Convention.
