WASHINGTON: Pakistan’s new ambassador to the United States Aizaz Chaudhry expressed hope on Wednesday that Donald Trump’s administration will engage positively with Pakistan since the two nations have been partners for the last seven decades and their multifaceted ties have benefitted both.

The ambassador said it was vital for both the United States and Pakistan to work together before the Islamic State group gains its footholds in Afghanistan.

“One area where the two countries have cooperated closely in the recent past is the shared desire to defeat the menace of terrorism. Our partnership has helped to defeat al Qaeda,” Chaudhry said. He added that Afghanistan’s volatile situation is one of the many fields where the two countries can mutually work together.

“Pakistan would like to see a stable, peaceful and prosperous Afghanistan. We have suffered in the past from instability in Afghanistan,” he said.

In his first interview after assuming his new assignment in Washington, Ambassador Chaudhary said he would work to deepen the mutually beneficial ties the two countries have enjoyed for long.

The ambassador said that given that President Trump and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have strong business backgrounds the two countries can certainly benefit from strong economic relations.

When his attention was drawn to the fact that some US lawmakers continue to express reservation about Pakistan’s commitment to fight terrorism, the ambassador said it was important that US lawmakers were apprised of the reality of today’s Pakistan, which was way too different from the perceptions created by some detractors.

He said that Pakistan has turned the tide against terrorism and Operation Zarb-e-Azb was a resounding success. “We are now consolidating through a new military operation Radd-ul-Fasaad, which is meant to search and eliminate terrorists hiding in our society,” he added.

Ambassador Chaudhry said he will make all required efforts to show the positive side of Pakistan for mutual benefits. “We will also welcome US legislators to visit Pakistan and see for themselves the new, stronger and prosperous Pakistan,” he added.

The ambassador said before arriving in Washington, he called on the president and the prime minister as well as senior civil and military leadership, and there was a complete consensus in Pakistan to have friendly and cooperative ties with the United States.

“The US remains one of our most important relationships in terms of trade, economy, defense, energy, health, education, and culture,” the ambassador said. He added that he was in the US to build on the history of cooperation the two countries have enjoyed for so long.

The US aka assrahell is IS! Where the hell have you been all this time?

. .
Tch! The US.

Don't blame us. We told the incompetent and corrupt lot in Afghanistan and the US that we are launching a full scale offensive against terrorists in 2014 as zarb e azb so plz secure your border and work with us to destroy the remnants that try to run across but both the US and Afghanistan especially Afghanistan not only decided to not give a damn but also aided and armed those TTP remnants.

Well those TTP remnants have now become ISIS and created a full base ground for ISIS. The incompetent Afghanistan thought that they could use TTP against us only to see them become ISIS and attack Afghanistan.

We kept telling the US that If it didn't straighten Afghanistan up then ISIS would find a base over there and lo and behold ISIS is in Afghanistan.

So first of all thank you Afghanistan for bringing ISIS into the region and secondly US needs to grab the ears of its lapdog and tell him to straighten up, stop bitching about Pakistan and make some progress against the Taliban and ISIS.

In a way its good that focus is in Afghanistan. However, before any thoughts of cooperation, it is imperative to unveil as to who was behind introducing the IS in Afghanistan from ME.

US should ask itself the crucial question that is it willing to work with Pakistan or is more inclined towards playing a blame game.

They will do the blame-game during election time.

. .
Could be true. Maybe the US will then convince Pakistan to not destroy IS, and to use IS as a proxy against Iran.
I think Afghanistan is staged for another great Proxy War.. I fear Afghanistan will never see peace..

“The US remains one of our most important relationships in terms of trade, economy, defense, energy, health, education, and culture,” the ambassador said.

Despite all that, what explains the rabid anti-US sentiments prevalent in Pakistan? Either that statement is incorrect, or Pakistanis are ingrates. Something is not right here.

Coming to Afghanistan, why would USA help Pakistan with its goals of controlling that area when it can be shown that their interests no longer coincide to the extent that they once did?

The ambassador's statement can easily be interpreted as Pakistan threatening the U.S.: do what we say or else we'll let Daesh eat Afghanistan!

Whether or not the U.S. is "willing to work with Pakistan" the ambassador has asserted Pakistan will have a role in the consequences.

I admit, America declining is the hope and wish of most Pakistanis. It is nothing less than a bully and more of a tyrant.

The ambassador's statement neither asserted that nor ruled it out; your claim that I did so is a misrepresentation.

By definition a tyrant is one who uses cruel, unreasonable, and arbitrary application of power to rule. Why don't you think that definition applies more to Pakistan that to the U.S.?
