Pakistan to get $2.3 mn from UN from BB murder inquiry

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has managed to extract a commitment of $ 2.3 million from the United Nations owed to the country from the residual amount earlier given by Islamabad for an inquiry into former prime minister Benazir Bhutto’s assassination.
Due to the efforts of Pakistan’s Mission to the UN in New York, the UN is now prepared to return this money from the $3.5 million contributed by former president Asif Ali Zardari’s government.
The UN apologized for the delay in the matter to Pakistan’s Ambassador to the UN, Dr Maleeha Lodhi, and is now prepared to return this amount as early as possible.
The UN Commission was established in 2008 to investigate the death of Benazir Bhutto, former prime minister of Pakistan, at the request of the then PPP government of Pakistan.
The Report of the United Nations Commission of Inquiry into the facts and circumstances of the assassination of Benazir Bhutto was released in 2010.

I did not know the Pakistan requested and paid money for an UN investigation. It was strange news to me as most of the countries world over actually fight against any foreign investigations into domestic matters.

Well it news to me and its the first I've heard of it. We don't know the real reason this money is given for. Ask yourself why would UN pay for a country's internal investigation? They could have done it themselves and if not allowed, they would not pay. I don't trust this story!

But I am still puzzled why Pakistan requested the UN to conduct an investigation in the first place. Makes no sense to me at all.

But I am still puzzled why Pakistan requested the UN to conduct an investigation in the first place. Makes no sense to me at all.

I do not follow Pakistan's politics and surely do not understand the dynamics but yeh ghar ki baat hai ghar me hi hona chahiye. Yeh mera vichar hai.
