Pakistan-Taliban peace talks challenged in SC

The peace talks between Nawaz government and the Taliban have been challenged in Pak Supreme Court.

Shahid Orakzai submitted an application against the peace talks under Article 184 of the constitution at the SC.

According to the Nation, in an application Orakzai alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), the majority party in the National Assembly, was in contact with the Taliban even before the May 2013 general elections.

He added that its leader Nawaz Sharif had secretly channelled money to Hakimullah Mehsud in December 2012.

The petition said that after receiving the payment, Mehsud had proposed Nawaz as a guarantor for the peace with the Armed Forces of Pakistan he had proposed under the previous government, the report said.

According to he report, Orakzai said he would produce the evidence to show how an officer of Pakistan Air Force was murdered only to cover up the financial transactions between al-Qaeda boss Osama bin Ladin and Sharif.
