PSL 3 draft to be held on November 12

Player draft for the third edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) will be held on November 12, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Friday.

A statement released by the PCB said international players — including Chris Lynn, J.P. Duminy, Mitchell Johnson, Dwayne Bravo, Imran Tahir, Angelo Mathews, Luke Ronchi, Colin Ingram, Wayne Parnell, and John Hastings — will be available to be picked in the draft.

The six PSL teams — which already have nine-player squads — will be able to pick up to 11 players each to complete their 20-member squad using a $1.2 million purse.

"The draft will include one round in Platinum, Diamond and Gold categories. This will be followed by two rounds each in Silver and Emerging categories. Teams will have the option to pick up to four players each in the Supplementary category," the statement read.

"The default pick order will see Lahore Qalandars going first followed by Islamabad United, Karachi Kings, Quetta Gladiators, Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans" but the order may be altered because of trades between the franchises, the biggest of which was Shahid Afridi's recent move from Peshawar Zalmi to Karachi Kings.

Karachi Kings have also "opted to skip their first pick in the Emerging Round; they will nominate a player after the conclusion of their talent hunt program."

The next edition of PSL is expected to be held in February, 2018.

501 players make it to HBL PSL draft

With the 2018 edition of Pakistan Super League just around the corner, a total of 501 foreign and local cricketers will be available for selection at the player draft scheduled to take place on November 12.

Teams have already retained nine players each and will go into the HBL PSL Player Draft to pick one player from the Platinum category, one from the Diamond category, one from the Gold category, two players from the Silver category and two players from the Emerging stars pool, in order to complete their squad of 16.

Teams will also be able to select four players in the supplementary round to complete their 20-member roster.

Each team will have a salary cap of $1.2 million for a squad of 20 players.

Top international players
— including Chris Lynn, JP Duminy, Imran Tahir, Carlos Brathwaite, Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, Jimmy Neesham, Angelo Mathews, Mustafizur Rahman, Mitchell McClenaghan, Mitchell Johnson, Colin Munro, Luke Ronchi, Adil Rashid, Wayne Parnell, Thisara Perera and Colin Ingram — will be up for selection at the PSL Draft.

Promising cricketers from the Pakistan Under-19 set-up and top performers of the recently concluded Under-19 Pentangular Cup have been added to the Emerging Players roster.

Starting this year, teams may also nominate players from their own 'Talent Hunt Discovery' section that comprise players who were discovered during each team's talent hunt programmes but were unable to qualify into the emerging players category.

strange names in platinum category like umar akmal, misbah, sarfaraz ahmad, hafeez, wahab riaz. all these players are useless in T 20s . they should have been in scrap metal category.

yeah absolute joke that Hassan Ali and Shahdab are in the gold category when they are gun T20 players that any team in the world would have them in their team.

if Hassan Ali and Shahdab cant become diamond category players after the year they've had in the last 12 months then whats the point. this is where IPL outshines PSL, Indias gun players are always rewarded with he best contracts.

Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise Islamabad United on Saturday announced the appointment of left-arm pacer Rumman Raees as the vice-captain for the third edition.

Raees, who has represented Men in Green in four ODIs and five T20Is with 10 wickets in total, will serve as the second-in-command to Pakistan’s most successful Test captain Misbahul Haq.

Owner of Islamabad United Ali Naqvi, while addressing media in Lahore, said Raees has proven himself worthy for the post.

“We’ve always aimed for this franchise to be similar to a family, and these two appointments are a continuation of that belief,” said Naqvi. “Raees has come a long way from when we picked him up in the first PSL players’ draft. And the way he has represented the franchise over the past two years made him the ideal candidate for this role. We think this is the perfect time for him to be given this responsibility as it will allow him to groom his leadership skills under the tutelage of a great mentor like Misbah.”

Ajmal appointed spin-bowling coach

Pakistani off-spinner Saeed Ajmal, once an enigma and a permanent part of Pakistan’s line up in all formats, has been appointed as the spin bowling coach by Islamabad, and owner Naqvi believes his experience will be important in nurturing new talent.

“Saeed has been part of the [Islamabad] family for two years now and we have nothing but praise for how he has represented us,” said Naqvi. “He’s a great person, an equally great player, and I am sure the young guys will learn a lot from him. Furthermore, the staff recommended him for this role, and we’ve always left the cricketing decisions to the cricket people.”

Head coach of Islamabad United Dean Jones was full of praise for Raees and called him the future of both the franchise and the national team.

“We believe that Raees is a future leader for our franchise, and more importantly a future leader for Pakistan. We have been most impressed by him not only as a cricketer but as an individual, and we will try to develop him even further in both these aspects,” he said.

There’s a team that is dear to its followers,

They play in the bright blue and white,

They’re a team of renown, they’re the pride of the City,

And the game of cricket is their delight,

So all the while upon the field of play,

Thousands gladly cheer them on their way,

Often you can hear them say,

Who can beat the City today?

Then the bells will ring so merrily,

Every run will be a memory,

So City play up and bring the cup,

Back to Karachi.
