Pakistan stops Afghan cargo shipments to Waga port

January 27, 2020

KABUL: Pakistan has stopped ground shipments of export cargos from Afghanistan into its port of Waga – a ratcheting up of Pakistan’s transit pressure to have hit Afghan exporters for several times, a government spokesman said Monday.

“Several cargo trucks carrying fruits headed to India have been sent back from Waga port by Pakistani authorities since the past three days,” said Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment spokesperson Jan Agha Navid.

He said that other shipments have been cancelled in the face of the standoff. “This is the season of fruit exports and we need to ramp up our exports. There should be an immediate solution forged immediately,” he said.

Navid said that Afghanistan now exports its fruits specially apple and aside from farmers, exporters and traders will incur losses should the situation remain unresolved.

“The issue of blockade has been referred to government officials but no step has been taken so far,” he said.

There is no ban on Afghan exports but through sea port they are just trying to kick the fuss. We should not even let enter our borders if destination is not clearly specified. Let them use air or sea route.

Seems a bit cheeky of the Afghans to just drive up to the border and expect to be let through. Where's their senses?

whoever wrote the article is an idiot. there is no seaport in Punjab (that is where wagah crossing is).

no sea travel whatsoever is required, just a drive across kpk to punjab

Pakistan have got no sea ports?? Is Punjab is part of the Arabian sea?? Before you calling someone names do your home work and don't be laugh of the PDF. Afghans goods and Indian goods in return can only go through sea port from Karachi to India and back. Read properly or ask help from someone to read it for you or go to spec savers to change your glasses prescription.
