NEW DELHI: Foreign secretary S Jaishankar said on Friday that "any unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops would be met with an effective response."

"India remains committed to steps that contribute to peace on border but we won't let our guard down. Indian forces would give befitting reply to ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops," foreign secretary S Jaishankar said.

The foreign secretary was addressing the media after a meeting of top ministers to review the overall situation in the wake of fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the border in Jammu and Kashmir.

Jaishankar also denied Pakistan army's claim that it had shot down an Indian spy drone near Line of Control.

"The picture of the drone indicates that it is not of Indian design. It appears to be of a Chinese design," Jaishankar said.

The foreign secretary also said that it were Pakistani troops who started the recent round of ceasefire violations on the border.

"Why conversations were not initiated by Pakistan if firing was started by the Indian side," Jaishankar added.

SIALKOT/ISLAMABAD: Three people were killed and five others injured in Sialkot's Chaprar sector, whereas another person was killed in firing across the Line of Control (LoC) in Rawalakot's Neza Pir sector in separate instances of unprovoked firing by Indian Border Security Forces on Thursday, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

Those killed in Sialkot have been identified as Ghulam Mustafa, Rahat and Muhammad Boota. Zarina Bibi, an 18-year-old, was killed in Rawalakot.

Episodic attacks of firing and shelling which commenced in Sialkot on Wednesday morning at 8:30am are said to be ongoing and Pakistani troops are responding with retaliatory firing, Punjab Rangers said.

Rangers sources said the attacks along the Sialkot Working Boundary have mostly harmed civilians, adding that livestock belonging to residents of the area has been killed, while houses have been partially damaged.

Yesterday's attacks targeted Sialkot's Bajwat sector. No loss of life or casualties were reported at the time.

AP on Wednesday quoted D. Parekh of India's BSF as saying that Pakistani troops fired heavy mortar shells, adding that one woman was killed and three civilians injured when one of the shells exploded near a border village.

Parekh had alleged that Pakistani soldiers first fired at a paramilitary soldier guarding a border post in the Pargwal area. As troops tried to evacuate the seriously injured soldier, they came under heavy fire and retaliated, he had said.

Instances of unprovoked firing across the Indo-Pak border have occurred intermittently over the years.

In March 2015, Indian border forces opened unprovoked fire on some villages in the Charwah sector along the Working Boundary. At the time, Pakistani officials had alleged that the Indian BSF personnel had violated the ceasefire accord and targeted civilian population.

A similar incident was also reported in January this year, when Indian BSF resorted to unprovoked intensified heavy mortar shelling on several Pakistani villages along the Working Boundary in Sialkot, killing four Pakistani civilians.

In December 2013, the two countries had pledged to uphold the 2003 ceasefire accord which was left in tatters by repeated violations that year. The truce breaches had put the nascent bilateral peace dialogue on hold.

The last time we had destroyed dozens of their posts along the LoC/IB in retaliatory fire. Here's a video of one such Pakistan post that got hammered by the IA. This video was shot by a Pakistani from a neighboring post....

Lossing Drone in the process as well...

Heavy retaliation or Burn the LOC if prompted and at the same time India should continue with the peace process.
Pak fouj will get what it wants and let Nawaz score some diplomatic points for media consumption.
Both parties happy.

India and Pakistan have often accused each other of unprovoked firing along the disputed border
At least five civilians were killed as India and Pakistan exchanged fire in the disputed Kashmir region, days after a meeting between leaders of the two countries in Russia.

Pakistan accused India of unprovoked firing in which four civilians died and five others were injured.

India said one woman was killed and three other civilians wounded in firing by Pakistani soldiers.

Pakistan's army also said it shot down an Indian spy drone in Kashmir.

Pakistan summoned the Indian ambassador on Thursday to hear a "strong protest over airspace violation", the AFP news agency quoting a statement issued by the Pakistani foreign ministry said.

The incidents come days after Mr Modi accepted an invitation from Mr Sharif to attend a regional summit in Islamabad next year, signalling a new thaw in a strained relationship. This will be Mr Modi's first visit to Pakistan after he took power last year.

India and Pakistan have often accused each other of unprovoked firing along the disputed border. A ceasefire agreed in 2003 remains in place, but the neighbours often accuse each other of violating it.

Pakistan's military said four civilians, including a 18-year-old girl, had died and five others were wounded when Indian troops fired across the de facto border in Sialkot region on Wednesday morning.

Across the border, Indian border guards said one woman had been killed and three other civilians injured when Pakistani soldiers fired shells which exploded near a border village in Pargwal area on Wednesday.

The Pakistani military claimed that the drone was being used for aerial photography
"It was a blatant, unprovoked cease-fire violation by Pakistan," D Parekh of India's Border Security Force told the Associated Press news agency.

Meanwhile, India's army and air force have denied that any of their drones had been shot down or crashed in Pakistan, reports said.

"An Indian spy drone was shot down by Pakistani troops which intruded into Pakistan along [the de facto border that divides the region] near Bhimber today. The spy drone is used for aerial photography," a statement from the Pakistani military said on Wednesday.

But a spokesperson of the Indian army denied the report.

"Some reports of a drone crash in Azad Kashmir [Pakistan-controlled Kashmir] are being referred to. No drone or UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] crash of the Indian Army has taken place," the spokesperson told the Press Trust of India news agency.

An air force spokesperson also denied that any of their drones had been brought down.

Kashmir, claimed by both countries in its entirety, has been a flashpoint for more than 60 years.

'A befitting reply' is apparently the massacre of 5 innocent civilians by the Indian military.

Ties in with the rest of the 'support terrorism' and 'proud to support terrorism in East Pakistan' comments (I'm paraphrasing to illustrate actual intent/meaning) by Modi and other BJP leaders.

Told ya last time when single indian soldier was killed by pakistan in unprovoked firing, that india will give befitting reply at the time and place of its likging. Now you have 4 dead pakistani .

Nope! A befitting reply is what can be seen in the video in post #4 of this thread! :cheesy:
I see a random structure being hit - was it occupied? Abandoned?

There's no context.

And if that was a functional bunker/post, what is so unique about Indian mortars that you think the Indian's didn't get a heavy dose of the same treatment?

The killing of combatants in a conflict zone is an acceptable part of war.

The deliberate killing of non-combatants is a war crime - taking pride in what amounts to war crimes by the BSF is reflective of a diseased mind.
