NEW DELHI: Foreign secretary S Jaishankar said on Friday that "any unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops would be met with an effective response."
"India remains committed to steps that contribute to peace on border but we won't let our guard down. Indian forces would give befitting reply to ceasefire violations by Pakistan troops," foreign secretary S Jaishankar said.
The foreign secretary was addressing the media after a meeting of top ministers to review the overall situation in the wake of fresh ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the border in Jammu and Kashmir.
Jaishankar also denied Pakistan army's claim that it had shot down an Indian spy drone near Line of Control.
"The picture of the drone indicates that it is not of Indian design. It appears to be of a Chinese design," Jaishankar said.

The foreign secretary also said that it were Pakistani troops who started the recent round of ceasefire violations on the border.
"Why conversations were not initiated by Pakistan if firing was started by the Indian side," Jaishankar added.
