Pakistan sends medical aid to Syria to fight Covid-19

Islamabad, Nov 1, IRNA -- The government of Pakistan has sent first shipment of humanitarian and medical aid to Syria on Sunday to help the country in fight against Covid-19.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in a statement said the shipment sent to Damascus includes medical equipment, 250,000 masks, thousands of protective gear and other health items.


Humanitarian aid was provided by the Government of Pakistan through NDMA on the request of the friendly and brotherly country of Syria.


The aid was loaded on a plane belonging to Pakistan International Airlines in a formal ceremony attended by Pakistani officials and the officials of Syrian embassy at Islamabad Airport which later flew to Damascus.


The Pakistani government, which has been under constant pressure from some Middle Eastern countries since the beginning of the Syrian crisis to take a concerted stance against Damascus, not only refused to take a biased stance but also continued to develop diplomatic and political relations with Syria.


In October this year, Pakistani and Syrian officials in Islamabad took a new step to consider launching direct flights between the two countries.


Since the beginning of the crisis in Syria and the support of some Arab countries in the region led by the United States for terrorist elements, some countries have closed embassies or reduced their diplomatic activities in Damascus, but Pakistan is one of the countries that maintains political balance and declares non-partisan position.


Pakistan also refuses to interfere in the internal affairs of other countries including Syria.

Its a very significant step. Its very satisfying Pakistan is not picking sides. I can imagine the kind of pressure Saudi and UAE would have been exerting on Pakistan to choose sides. But Pakistan should help Syrians out of brotherhood. Its a country which has been ruined by terrorism which has been assisted by rich Arab states whose interests in the region align with Israel.

What's wrong here? Syrians need humanitarian aid.....we have extra supplies to donate. I'm sure Pakistani's have sent aid to Idlib as well. We are neutral but recognize the regime in Damascus.

Its impossible to be neutral, how can Pakistan appreciate and condemn terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia at the same time?
History shows, Pakistan's relationship with Arabs have only been limited to jobs, diplomatic and financial support, or surplus military equipment.
Whereas relationship can be gauged from recent visits of Pakistani leadership to Iran.

KSA, UAE and Bahrain were funding FSA. They were sworn enemies of Assad. It was KSA which have been blocking Assad from attending OIC sessions, useless as they are. Erdogan has a very narrow objective and that is to not let Kurds gain any strategic advantage from conflict in Syria.
