President Karzais government is treating terrorists like Maulvi Faqir, Fazlullah and other elements that have been attacking the government forces and installations in Pakistan and killing innocent people as special guests and providing them all facilities, sources have revealed.
Yes, reports in this connection are correct, authoritative quarters here said. Not only that the Afghans have also given a foreign intelligence agency operatives access to terrorists so that they can continue to plan and launch cross border attacks in Malakand, Chitral and Balochistan.
The sources said during the recent trilateral meeting in Brussels, COAS General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had demanded President Karzai to hand over the Pakistani Taliban leader Maulvi Faqir Mohammad to Pakistan so as to bring him to justice. Maulvi Faqir is a senior high-ranking terrorist who was involved in the TTP campaign in Swat and was also responsible for several attacks against the Pakistani forces. He was reportedly captured during a raid in the Nangarhar province by members of the Afghan intelligence agency and police officers.
The army chief had also asked the Afghan president in Brussels to take effective measures to dismantle the sanctuaries of Taliban militants led by Maulvi Fazlullah, who has been launching attacks on Pakistan from the Afghan provinces of Kunar and Nuristan. While on the face of it, President Karzai agreed to the demand, which was perfectly doable, on his return home, he conveniently pushed it under the carpet.
On the other hand, the Afghan military entered the Pakistani border area on the night of May 1 and attacked the Gursal post in Mohmand Agency, injuring two security personnel deployed in the area, a provocation that affected the bilateral relationship.
The relationship between the two countries can definitely improve if President Karzai hands over these terrorists to Pakistan and ensures that the TTP does not use the Afghan territory for launching attacks on Pakistan, the sources added.
