Pakistans military delegation visits Sri Lanka

Colombo: Faced with Taliban militancy, Pakistan has shown its keenness in learning about the anti-insurgency operations conducted by the Sri Lankan Army against the LTTE which ended with killing of top Tiger leaders.
A visiting delegation from Pakistan National Defence University, headed by Air Commodore Nadeem Anjum of Pakistan Air Force, held discussions in this regard with Sri Lankan Army Chief Lt Gen Jagat Jayasuriya.
The delegation "was keen to learn more about recently concluded Wanni Humanitarian Operations and how it was brought to a successful completion", the Sri Lankan Army said in a statement.
"Both sides also took up matters of bilateral interests and explored possibilities of further promoting healthy relations between Sri Lanka Army and Pakistan Defence Services," it said.
The Pakistani military delegation's six-day visit to the island nation, which is part of its study-cum-familiarisation tour to SAARC countries, concluded today.
Lt Gen Jayasuriya also presented a memento to Air Commodore Anjum. Colonel Syed Khurram Alam, Defence Attaché at High Commission for Pakistan, was also present during the delegation's visit to the Army Headquarters here.
The delegation also paid a courtesy call on Secretary Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday.
"A discussion was held between Secretary Defence and Pakistani defence delegation on security challenges both in Sri Lanka and Pakistan during this meeting," the statement said.
Sri Lanka, which battled the LTTE rebels for three decades before vanquishing them last year, has said it would share its experiences of success in counter-terrorism operations with the SAARC nations.
