Some people won't like it, but Centaurs, I must say, is the ugliest piece of architecture ever.

It looks quiet modern , and more importantly not bad for a start Lahore lack modern high rises at the moment but if this thing kicks off than it wil be a motivator for many.

This Sparklingway guy hates everything and anything to do with Pakistan. Everything is bad for him in this country. Pessimistic much.

Also the centaurus is in Islamabad and its one of the best designs in the world under construction right now.

why we need another thread after every couple of months. MODs please make the other development thread sticky (having 50+ pages i think) and merge this thread with it.

Anyway thanks for sharing

Doesn't matter yaar the point to concern is it is going to generate thousands of jobs for locals.

And the design is not that bad either................ Obviously you can't compare it with Sydney Opera House but keeping in mind the other buildings of Pakistan it is one of the best.

The designers are the world famous Atkins, who have been responsible for buildings as amazing as the Burj ul Arab, Xian Xianyang Airport Terminal, Bahrain WTC and the DIFC lighthouse Tower to name a few. This is hideous compared to what they've done before.

Islamabad is following the Dubai model. Neither do we have Sheikhs who sole jobs are shopping, hoteling, dining and offroading nor do we have a culture of huge shopping malls littering across the city. The Dubai model cannot work here and we should stop looking for such pointless projects. Centaurs is just another Sheikh wet dream --> Apartment + Shopping Mall + Office + Hotel ... Oh yeah !!!!

I believe in very strict town planning and this violates my inherent belief of how the Pakistani metropolis should rise.

The reason why it is like that is because it is Earthquack proof ;) I am not sure if Bahrain WTC or Xianyang Airport can survive major Earthquacks or not but this model was designed keeping in mind the safety of this building even if the earthquack of 9.0 appears on richtar scale.

In another words i am hoping the survivability of this building even after similar bomb blasts taken place like what happened in Marriot hotel couple of years ago (not sure but very opsitimistic)

hmmm interesting  and somehow i agree with you :agree:

how you think it should than enlighten us here

By not building pointless hotel-residential-office complexes and providing low cost housing to the hundreds of thousands of people who live across Islamabad's edges in shanty homes. By providing efficient public transport in a city where it is absolutely easy to do so and by not letting the automobile sprawl increase. A city with a population of less than a million people shouldn't be as automobile dependent as Islamabad is (I'm compensating for a higher median income).

It is extremely easy to provide public transport in Islamabad and develop business parks rather than luxurious residential apartments. For once, the FBR can start by going thorough the tax records of the people who bought these apartments the very day the loot sale started.

This is not the thread for discussion on town planning and traffic management. Open a new thread for that if you want. I study these subjects with great interest and I'm hoping I would be able to have a meaningful discussion in this regard.

Low cost housing imposible when the land is so scarce .. forget in but around Islambad or other major cities ... good chunks are bought by DHA and other developers ... not sure the price GOP getting paid for those thou ! Land prices will keep on going higher and higher due to unless new town are allocated and land is allocated free or in bare minimum rates to welfare housing socieities (which doesnt really exist) .Mass transit is sure workable and the revenue can be in billions .. but hey we got transport mafia there. The bus and van walas will either block motorway or town centres to halt countrys business

Firstly, peri urban areas are available in vast amounts across Islamabad and have been consumed by real estate developers over the years. They've reached Rawat on the eastern side and Fateh Jhang on the western side.

Secondly, PHA was vast land holdings across G sectors. There is land available for the state to initiate low cost housing on its own or promote real estate developers to construct low cost housing (by giving tax incentives).

Thirdly, don't get me started on DHA (supposedly in Islamabad). Most of the land on western side of River Swan hasn't been bought in any way. There's been a judicial inquiry into that and you might want to read about it. There are marked legal problems across that land as Bahria Town and DHA has joined hands to loot the masses using thugs. Read here and here

Fourthly, transport mafia exists because the state and municipalities have never assumed the responsibility for public transport systems. Heck, Islamabad is directly ruled by bureaucrats (CDA). They've got all the power to start their own transport system. The will isn't there because Islamabad is a city of the rich, by the rich for the rich.
