Railways fares would not be raised and efforts would be redoubled to increase the income of the organisation through greater business and good governance, said Federal Minister for Railways Khawaja Saad Rafique while talking to journalists on Saturday.

Saad said every possible effort is being made to provide better travelling services to the passengers and increase business trains. He pointed out that now the locomotives are not breaking down on the track and no trains are suspended due to lack of engine or fuel.

The minister said 29 new locomotives will reach Pakistan shortly.

He said special focus is being paid to the maintenance of locomotives despite resource constraints.

According to railway workers themselves, the japanese engine (above) is better and locally manufactured. Last time, chinese engine came with kickbacks and is not as good.

I saw the same on an episode of pakistani news channel on YT.The official openly said chinese sourced locomotives were not popular and the possible angle of kickback. But more than kickbacks, i assume either a)pakistan cant afford/source anything better at the price or b)Chinese arm twisting to ensure their products in their allies railyards.

Nevertheless, if you could setup the suzuki jv with PAC, dont you any heavy engineering concerns that can do the same with any example from the western world? I agree the initial setup would be costly, but would be more than rewarding when the first ones start to roll-out.

Chinese Locomotives are superior quality product , it was "engineering" error on part of Pakistan Railways , as their workers
used "ALREADY used oil" multiple times into brand new engine. This was done becasue Pakistan Railways did not purchased enough "NEW oil to keep engines properly lubricated

We need to train the local workforce to better maintain the valuable commodity
