New Delhi: Pakistan has criticised India’s attempt for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), calling it a ‘primary stumbling block’ for reforms.

Without naming India, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Maleeha Lodhi criticized its suggestion to look for alternatives if the current negotiating process doesn’t make progress.

India’s Permanent Representative Syed Akbaruddin had said on Tuesday: “If despite our best efforts, credible progress evades us once again, then we should not shy away from reviewing how we engage on this very important issue.”

“Those calling for a review of the IGN process, should instead review their own positions because the quest by some to gain permanent seats for themselves remains the primary stumbling block and this was clearly evident from our discussions, yesterday,” she said.

Interestingly, India, Brazil, Germany and Japan are pursuing permanent seats for themselves in the UNSC. Furthermore, many Arab and African nations are vying for representations in the ranks of the permanent numbers.

lol Indians in UN doesn't even feel shame to ask for that much?:lol::lol:

BTW a country who doesn't even consider UN resolution on Kashmir dont even deserve to be a member of UN let aside permanent seat, Pakistan and other civilized countries should question India's membership in UN.

Pakistan and China will never allow India to get UNSC.

China is already a UNSC member seat. China would not do anything that hurts Pakistan's interests.

@Indus Pakistan @waz

I thought this was an interesting issue, because if India gets UNSC seat, this would hurt the Kashmir cause.

Your views?

Even America will not allow india to get UNSC. All these american talks about getting india UNSC status is to get india as rival to china..

That is the wrong way to look at the situation - the correct view is that 'China will not do anything that hurts Chinese interests'. If Chinese interests align with Pakistani interests then that works out great for both countries.

The odds are that India will get its permanent seat but without veto power in a few years' time.

I believe that would be more in line with the Pakistani proposal, that the UNSC membership is expanded without an expansion in the veto power.

That is what I really meant. Chinese interests merge with Pakistani interests.

I already knew that, Every country looks after their own interests.

Its just that Chinese interests converge with Pakistani interests.

That is what I meant.
