  • "CPEC is a beautiful plan to connect peopleā€™s hearts."
  • PM congratulates China on 10 yearsā€™ completion of CPEC.
  • BRI is manifestation of Chinese President Xiā€™s vision of peace: PM.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged arch-rival India to take benefit of the multibillion-dollar China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) infrastructure project instead of creating hurdles in its way.
The premier said this in a statement on Wednesday to mark the completion of 10 years of CPEC.

Highlighting the significance of the project, he said Iran, Afghanistan, the Middle East and the whole region would also benefit from the mega-development project.
ā€œCPEC is a beautiful plan to connect not only regions and areas but also peopleā€™s hearts,ā€ he was quoted as saying in the statement issued by the PM Office.
PM Shehbaz vowed to double the pace of the development as it was not only for improving roads, rail, seaports and air routes, but it would also help health, education and skill development areas, besides massesā€™ participation in the process.
Terming it a game changer for the whole region, the prime minister said CPEC would have a positive impact on the peopleā€™s living standards in the region.
The prime minister congratulated the leadership and the people of Pakistan and China on 10 yearsā€™ completion of CPEC, which he said was a new chapter of the evergreen and trusted strategic cooperative partnership between the two ā€œiron brothersā€.
He said the project was a tremendous example of great Chinese leader Xi Jinping and PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharifā€™s vision of ā€œdevelopment for allā€.
ā€œThe Belt and Road initiative is the manifestation of Chinese President Xiā€™s vision of peace, friendship, and economic partnership.ā€
He regretted that during the four years of the previous government, hurdles were created in the way of the project, besides levelling baseless allegations against a great friend like China.
ā€œThe enemies of CPEC are against peace, development and prosperity in Pakistan and the region, as they do not want to eradicate poverty from the country,ā€ he added.
CPEC, he said, also initiated a new era of mutual partnership between Pakistan and China, and fortified their bilateral relationships.
PM Shehbaz said CPEC encompassed multiple projects ranging from provision of water to education, and technical and skilled-based training.
With the construction of nine Special Economic Zones (SEZs), the new technology would be transferred to Pakistan, which would ultimately help increase local production, he said.
The prime minister also highlighted the impacts of the project on the effectiveness of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and early warning system for natural disasters as they were parts of CPEC.
Similarly, he said, the agriculture-related projects had also been included in CPEC to ensure food security.

. . .
But what's the benefit ?

you join this kind of project after looking at your Export list and how much its costing using sea routes.

We don't export to :
China
Iran - Sea is a little expensive but not that much.

Only benefit is if we sell to Afghanistan and Pakistan.
But for both, no need to join cepec.
For Middle Eastern countries , sea route is almost same cost.
As the length increases , sea route becomes more cheaper, far easier because of less countries to cross and less issues of dispute.

Maybe I'm missing something, any1 want to add ?

. .
They couldn't get CPEC to work because of poor market, they want to see if the largest market of South Asia can give it a boost. But this is a hilarious low for marde momeen. šŸ˜‚
How's that a low my vegan pandit friend? How's offering to take advantage of a buisness project is supposed to be a low?

I don't get your mentality here tbh

And even you probably know they didn't mean it, it's more like saying stuff for the hell it to get some PR, that's all, it's not like a genuine offer, that's not how offers work
It's clearly PR

It's low because on one hand India opposes BRI for violating our sovereignty but Pakistan has to depend on India for viability. It is low because India is an enemy country of Pakistan and for decades Pakistanis showcased CPEC as some master stroke that would propel Pakistan's economy and to run down India's nose on sovereignty.

Lol. How is it a PR? India is opposing BRI at SCO of all places and Pakistani dumbos think it is PR to request India to utilize CPEC? It is desperation not PR.

if it doesnt involve flooding the Indian market with Chinese products or lowering tariffs on them then its worth looking at

Reducing tariffs on Pakistani products in exchange for transit to Central Asia wont be such a bad deal.

There is not just Afghanistan. There is Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Krygistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan. Land route would be much cheaper than first shipping to Mumbai port then to iranian port and then to these countries. Also possibly energy and rare earths can be imported from these countries.

They're not inviting you for anything, that's not how countries offer you stuff, it's clearly diplomatic signalling/PR (whatever you wanna call it)
Cause India is going around calling it a geopolitical project & not a financial one

Here they're trying to counter that narrative by saying that there's no nefarious geopolitical agenda involved at all

this project is not against any country, it's a purely buisness project with no geopolitical/defense issues associated with it - that's the message they're trying to send with this
nor is it unique to Pakistan
Many other countries have done it throughout the years

For example Pakistan was concerned about Indian involvement in chabahar and it's wider geopolitical ramifications for Pakistan

To counter that Iran did the same thing as Pakistan, they invited Pak for chabahar project, wanted increased linkages between gawadar & chabahar

Now there's ofcourse no way Pakistan would accept the offer, we have been against it from the beginning

but that was Iran's way of diplomatic PR by dissociating the project from it's geopolitical side to that of a purely economic one

other such examples out there too, it's not a unique phenomena
Countries "offer" stuff for diplomatic signalling doesn't mean that they're actually offering you anything

What hurdles has India created for the project ?

What is there for India to join ?

CPEC was an unplanned project from Pakistan's side. Heavy Chinese debt needs to be paid, which is signed by Nawaz Sharif without reading the terms and conditions. CPEC is a strategic project for Pakistan, India should be avoided otherwise ....... But seems the military is on board for adding India.
