A banana republic is a country with an economy of state capitalism, whereby the country is operated as a private commercial enterprise for the exclusive profit of the ruling class. Such exploitation is enabled by collusion between the state and favored economic monopolies, in which the profit, derived from the private exploitation of public lands, is private property, while the debts incurred thereby are the financial responsibility of the public treasury. Such an imbalanced economy remains limited by the uneven economic development of town and country and usually reduces the national currency into devalued banknotes (paper money), rendering the country ineligible for international development credit.

Did the low IQ Generals and Waderas knew anything about the country turning into a Banana republic, add to them the pliable judiciary and crass corporate elites.

He is doing well monetizing his content.

No Pakistan has not yet reached the banana republic level. We are going down, yes, but not to that level.

Generals: Wow, we are now the 'Banana Republic of Pakistan', just hate the tag Islamic Republic attached to Pakistan, as being the lapdogs of US, she reprimanded us so many times about Pakistan going archaic fundamental Islam way.

So this is acceptable to us.

In a situation of despondency and hopelessness, this gallows humor comes naturally.
He is a Doctor. Supposedly an intellectual. I would much rather have him do some hard work analyzing problems and suggesting ideas for solutions than generate hits by spreading pessimism and despondency. He should sound hopeful and try to cheer his audience in moment of distress instead of playing to the peanut gallery for a few pennies. At least that Air Marshal and General made some arguments and generated debate instead of morphing into Late night comedians.

I was actually thinking about it, he lacks empathy and sensibilities for the sad situation and that at the end he should have come up with some solutions.

Criticism for the sake of it and no solutions specially from intellectual class leads to more despair, abysmally bad sentiments.

It's dry sarcasm with no emotions, or maybe he is hitting at the 'powers' that matters.

This is not one off. He is a sharp guy and smooth talker. But uses his talent to spread street gossip or sensationalism for sake of 'popularity'. I do enjoy our Stephen Colbert, but this guy can lay off making fun of his country now for a while.
