Bureau of Investigative Journalism has published a leaked official document recording details of 330 US drone strikes in Pakistan. The document shows the country has refused to publish or record civilian casualties after the year 2008.
The document also gives an insight to the understanding of Pakistani government about the drone campaign. Political party members have expressed deep concern about the leaked document, sighting it to be an attempt to continue drone attacks in Pakistan. The Pakistani government says that drone attacks are counter-productive and that it is working towards creating international consensus over Washington’s illegal drone policy. The deadly Drone attacks have caused increasing anti-American sentiment in the country. Political parties have blocked NATO supply route to Afghanistan for over two months to protest against US killer drones. Civilian casualties by drones have drawn strong protests across Pakistan. The inability of the government to stop drone attacks by the United States has undermined Islamabad’s political weight at the international level.
