KARACHI: Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif said on Tuesday that the military and civil leadership are on the same page that Pakistan has to make a clean break from its past.

Speaking on Geo News programme Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath, he accepted that Pakistan has made some mistakes in the past, adding that the country should not have participated in the proxy war in Afghanistan during Zia-ul-Haq's tenure as well as the war on terror.

“We need to break our false image. We have no stake but there is baggage. We need to accept the history and correct ourselves.”

Asif also remarked that countries shouldn’t put pressure on countries they share a close relationship with. “We need to tell our friends that we have improved our house. We need to bring our house in order to prevent facing embarassment on an international level.”

He also said that he doesn’t get why people are so surprised over the terrorist names included by the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) in the list. Those organisations are also banned in Pakistan. During Eid-ul-Azha, specific instructions were issued that no hides will be given to these banned organizations, he added.

Only one nation is Pakistan’s enemy in BRICS forum, he added.

BRICS declaration not a failure of country's foreign policy
Earlier, Khawaja Asif had said the BRICS declaration, which named terrorist groups in the South Asia region, cannot be termed as a failure of the country's foreign policy.

Speaking on Geo News programme 'Capital Talk' on Tuesday, Asif said the declaration was not against Pakistan, however, he added that a new foreign policy will have to be formed with regards to the regional situation.

Asif further said the policy should only be meant to safeguard the interests of the nation and its dignity.

Leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa condemned "terrorism in all its forms and manifestations" at the 9th BRICS Summit in China on Monday. The member states released the Xiamen declaration expressing concern over the security situation in the region.

"We strongly condemn terrorist attacks resulting in death to innocent Afghan nationals....We, in this regard, express concern on the security situation in the region and violence caused by the Taliban, ISIL/DAISH, Al Qaida and its affiliates including Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement, Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan, the Haqqani network, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, TTP and Hizb ut-Tahrir," said the declaration.

"We deplore all terrorist attacks worldwide, including attacks in BRICS countries, and condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations wherever committed and by whomsoever and stress that there can be no justification whatsoever for any act of terrorism. We reaffirm that those responsible for committing, organising, or supporting terrorist acts must be held accountable," it added further.

Asif also denied reports of China backing India's stance at the BRICS Summit on Monday, reiterating that China was a trustworthy friend of Pakistan.

Pakistan rejects BRICS statement, defence minister says no terrorist safe havens in country

Commenting on the conference of Pakistani envoys in Islamabad, he said recommendations put forth at the conference will be conveyed to the Parliament and other forums.

Pakistan has rejected the BRICS statement, saying that there are no terrorist safe havens on its soil.

“We reject the declaration [released by member countries] at the BRICS Summit,” Defence Minister Khurram Dastagir said during a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defence Tuesday.

“Forty per cent of Afghanistan is a safe haven for terrorists,” he said later while talking to the media.

"Pakistan has taken action against all groups on its soil and only the remnants of some are left."

So Pakistan needs to make a clean break but neighboring countries have a clean bond with terrorism to this day but nothing is said.

Interesting times ahead. Lets see how foreign policy shaped moving forward from this. First problem to resolve is Afghanistan, need to collapse the government towards a regime change and Taliban/Pakhtun influence restored to create room for peace.

Kashmir problem is far more important. Pakistan needs to work fast to bring Kashmir back to its territory before there is a Burma like genocide on Muslims there. I think there will be open war declaration from Pakistan against all involved before that happens.

Key now is not make enemies of non state actors which are friendly towards Pakistan, keep working with them for downfall of enemies just like they a trying to do Pakistan with their non state actors.

Naah... ..

Kashmir is not biggest problem for pakistan.
Tell me two things - if I say for past 70 years
1. What benefits got the Kashmiri from Pakistan?
2. What benefits got the pakistan for supporting terrorism in Kashmir ( you say freedom fighters)?

I can list down many disadvantages here... Please don't say, will be..... Hearing from 70 years and might be hearing after many year's

Its not about disadvantages or advantages its a muslim majority state that as per partition should be part of Pakistan

By freeing azad kashmir not only did we open a direct route to China, but blocked india forever from central asia Afghanistan, Russia and beyond

What was supposed to be a direct land route for india became a direct land route only through Pakistan

The rest of indian occupied Kashmir is simple unfinished business

Indians have difficulty in understanding Pakistan don't want Kashmir for benefit. They want its inhabitants to be free.

Its not Pakistans fault Kashmiris in Indian held part don't be want to be part of India and rebel. That is India's failure as a state. Pakistan are not going to choke them for you so India can seek "benefit" in having Kashmir. Why should they do India's bidding, this is India's problem.

Either other nations are naiive to the situation or blinded by under the table dodgy deals, vested interests bla bla bla. Pakistan knows the truth and stance on Kashmir will not change, should not change on ethical moral grounds.

.
Afghanistan is worthless we cant help it. You can fixed something which is broken

Neither are we inclined to start working with or being friends with india, it is a detestable country full of hindus, keep increasing our weapons and ensure we are ever ready and hostile towards india

So why can't just leave you occupied j&k and give message to India and China to leave from their j&k part.

That will be the best way to start... Your point I can start with pakistan based terrorists groups who are doing terrorism in Kashmir and India... I don't find, it is helping Kashmiri and Indian Muslims.

..........

On the topic, I asked... Did kashimiri get any benefits from Pakistan?

Modi seems to giving pakistans friends an offer they can't refuse.ant way if Pakistan indeed changes it's policy then it's good for thier future

No, what most Indians dont understand is :

1. What were the options to Pak over the last seven decades to achieve what they wanted ?
2. What options out those were exercised ?
3. Why weren't the un-exercised options taken ?
4. Can they ever be exercised successfully in the future ?
5. Why only the region of Kashmir & not Jammu & laddakh - they all belonged to Hari Singh ?
6. No state went to India / Pak in parts - it was all or nothing. Why then should one Princely state be split selectively ?

Having considered 1 to 4 above, what would be the Indian response to any / all of them ?

Does Pak have the wherewithal to ever achieve its aims ?

These & more are decisions Pak needs to take.

Indian remains sanguine about itself & its abilities.

.
I also denounce BRICS statement till they declare Indian occupational forces in Kashmir terrorists and mass murderer.

Why don't you ask Modi and the RSS why they do not accept the Land of the Indus as a separate country?

Should tensions heat up between Bharat and China and the so called "Chicken's neck" is broken, then Pakistan can have an opportunity to help the oppressed Kashmiris from Bharat occupation.

Obviously after the UN declaration, the Trump sledgehammer and the BRICS thrust Pakistani have no choice but to admit they made mistakes and make a clean break from their misbehavior. Good job FM. Now do it.
