What's new

Pakistan Navy's FAC-4, a First Indigenously produced warship, launched at Karachi Shipyard

No thanks. Obsolete and very expensive operate.

As for the Azmat class, the 3rd ship i think already replaced the twin 25mm cannon with what appears to be a Aselsan 30mm SMASH or 25mm STOP. In this new variant i expect the same, but would much prefer a 30mm CIWS like type 1130 equiped with 6 HQ-10. Gives more punch for defense. But that may be overkill. Additionally i think calling them FAC is slightly misleading in that they arent exactly fast. They are more like light corvettes. They are definitely more heavily armed than the typical FAC and carry either 8 C-802 or 6 Harba (AShCm/LACM). As @Bilal Khan (Quwa) stated there isna requirement for 4-6 more FAC. I would actually want PN to acquire rights for FAC-55 design. It appears far more stealthy and is far faster at 55knots and appears to have 8 cell RAM/FL-3000N capability.
With FACs, there are 2 approaches the PN should pursue together:

1. Refine the FAC(M). Continue with the CODAD (range/endurance) and emphasis on deploying Harbah.

2. FAC-55: Buy into the program, and manufacture them at home while retaining the CODAG and heavy emphasis on low-observability/detectability. Equip the retractable launchers with the supersonic ASCM.

For both, we ought to figure out a SAM/PDMS solution. Either FL-3000N, or acquire/develop a small VLS-based system. Perhaps take a page from the Falaj-2 and fit the FAC(M) with VLS for Umkhonto and Cheetah C-RAM?

Honestly i think the Azmat class is a good start but its trapped between 2 worlds. It is really a corvette come FAC. PNs aporoac for. It is as a multirole ship (Anti surface and land attack while maintaining littoral patrol). It is neither fast, nor able to engage is serious self protection. It could however, if upscaled, to say 850t be an excellent light corvette. That would give the space for an 8 cell VLS with umkhonto while maintaining LACM and long range AShM capabilities with better electronics. Such a ship. Would take if acquired in reasonable numbers (6-8) would take immense pressure of the defensive nature of the large surface combants at they could theoretically handle the major littoral defensive load (minus anti-sub).

Then get FAC-55 with Supersonic AShM for actual fast attack capabilities as at 50-55knots, they can really shoot and scoot.

. . . . .
My friend both Jalalat & Shuja'at are 24 Knots boats that hardly classify as fast attack crafts. Both are, I believe, over 20 years old.

Use the dual purpose Harbah as the weapon of choice and build a platform around that can be truly classified as an FAC for littoral defense using CODOG as propulsion means.

True about the speed of the older Jalalat class but if I am not mistaking the later Jurrat class of the early 2000s was 30 knots. You are right about the weapons system as there’s is built around the lighter C-802.

No thanks. Dont need to buy junk just for the sake of it.

4 Retired Chinese destroyers are same age as our OHP frigate and these are fully loaded with Surface, Under water and air combat capabilities

Azad, what is the name or class of destroyers these are with the Chinese navy ?

We need to really produce a FAC ....Fast, attack, Craft!!!! This is a hybrid small corvette.

We still need a true FAC. Fast (30+ knots) loaded with 4 x AShM, and relatively small craft for littoral defense.

Why not you are going for Turkish FAC-55 . this fast attack craft have the speed upto 55 knot

Turkey hasn't completed the first one yet, so there's nothing to test or check out (which is something the PN will want to do before deciding).

No offence but we should keep a little bit of a difference between assembled and indigenous build.Assembling is something different. It is just like aligning different parts of a toy.but indigenous is totally different.....
It means from A to Z all the things are made in Pakistan.
The title should be indigenous Assembled.

The navy has demands on beyond of such limits that we do not even know how this project will be implemented. They want something that hasn't been done yet. This is something we criticize from time to time because this project had to be started already.Subsystem works continue in many ways. many deals have been signed last year one of them was electrical drive system development project between Aselsan and STM. In other words, there is no fast missile boat project that has been started. Our hope is to SSB make a decision in 2020. Maybe the project can be divided into two different platforms to save time.

The 4 retired Destroyers are
Type 051 destroyer

  • Kaifeng (Hull 109), 132 meters
  • Dalian (Hull 110), 132 meters
  • Zunyi (Hull 134), 132 meters
  • Guilin (Hull 164), 132 meters

Type 051DT
Kaifeng (109) with "X" turret replaced by HQ-7 launcher
The Type 051DT was a modernized Type 051D. Kaifeng and Dalian were modernized to somewhat different designs.

Kaifeng initially received the Thomson-CSF Tavitac combat data system, the Type 393 surface search radar, and HQ-7 (Crotale derivative) surface-to-air missiles (SAM); the missiles replaced "X" turret. In 1999, YJ-8 missiles replaced the HY-series, and electronic warfare systems were upgraded.

Dalian received a similar modernization as Kaifeng. A notable difference was Dalian used the ZKJ-1 combat data system, which was also used on the Type 051Z.

They were later equipped with YJ-83 anti-ship missiles.

The Type 051DT was part of the Luda III class, and later the Luda IV class

The ships can be great addition to F22P fleet
