NEW DELHI: Pakistan military claimed on Wednesday that had shot down an "Indian spy drone" along the Line of Control (LoC) in Bhimber, in Azad Kashmir.

"The Indian spy drone had violated Pakistani airspace after which it was targeted by Pakistani forces and brought down for violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity", Pakistani newspaper Dawn reported quoting Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

"The spy drone is used for aerial photography," Pakistan's Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) added in its press statement.

Pakistan military's claim of shooting down the Indian spy drone has come on the day when a woman was killed in in firing by Pakistani Rangers on the international border in Jammu district.

A woman was killed and three people, including two civilians and a border security force (BSF) trooper, were injured in firing by Pakistani Rangers on the international border in Jammu district on Wednesday, an official said.

Poli Devi, 42, a resident of Akhnoor sector, has been killed in the firing, a senior police officer said.

"Three others - Ramesh Lal and Usha Devi, both civilians, and constable Anjali Kumar of 89 battalion of BSF - have been injured in the firing," the officer said.

"Two of the injured persons have been shifted to Jammu city for treatment, while the third, Usha Devi, is being treated in a local hospital in Pargwal village near the border."

The skirmishes were ongoing as of late Wednesday afternoon.

The unprovoked firing on the international border by Pakistan Rangers comes at a time when the state government is busy making arrangements for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu on Friday.

New Delhi: An Indian spy drone was shot down by Pakistani forces along the Line of Control (LoC) on Wednesday after it intruded into its airspace, as per a report.

According to Dawn news, the Pakistani military said the Indian drone was brought down for "violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity".

The incident comes just days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif's ice-breaking meeting in Russia.

After the meeting several breakthroughs were announced including a push for meetings between senior army officials of both sides.

Also earlier in the day, Pakistani troops along the International Border in Jammu violated ceasefire killing and three others, including a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, were injured.

The 42-year-old woman identified as Poli Devi died in the mortar shelling while 24-year-old Ramesh Kumar and 38-year-old Udha Devi suffered injuries, he said.

The ceasefire violation came two days before Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Jammu to attend the centenary celebrations of former state finance minister Girdhari Lal Dogra.

It has become almost customary for Pakistan troops to violate the bilateral ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir each time a VVIP from the Central government visits the state.

I've seen the supposed picture of the drone...it's some stupid quadcopter of Chinese make. And here we have
our jingoistic neighbours chest-thumping as if they've shot down a Taranis or something...

Someone tell these idiots that the drones they're actually supposed to shoot down aren't coming from India.

Army Denies Pakistan's Claims of Shooting Down Indian 'Spy Drone'

New Delhi: The Indian military today denied the Pakistan army's claims of shooting down an Indian "spy" drone.

"Some reports of a drone crash in Azad Kashmir (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) are being referred to. No drone or UAV crash of Indian Army has taken place," the defence ministry said in a statement. The army's Northern Command has also issued a denial.

The Pakistan army has alleged that the drone was being used for aerial photography near the Line of Control and was shot down in the Bhimber area of Azad Kashmir. The drone was "brought down for violation of Pakistan's territorial integrity," it claims.

The incident comes days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif held talks in Ufa in Russia where the two leaders were attending a summit.

In a joint statement after the talks, the two countries decided to arrange meetings of senior military officials to reduce tension along the border.

Lt. General (Retd.) Hoon warns Pak of dire consequences | Zee News
Last Updated: Thursday, July 16, 2015 - 21:34

Chandigarh: Amid growing concerns over repeated ceasefire violations along the border, Lieutenant General (Retired) PN Hoon on Thursday warned Pakistan of dire consequences.

"Pakistan had also told us three to four days back that it was ready to even put the nuclear strikes against us. I would like to say that if you have 20 or 30 atom bombs and you throw it on all our citizens in India, we will still survive," Lieutenant General (Retired) Hoon told ANI here.

"But if we put ten bombs on you which we will not be the first people to do in retaliation, Pakistan will go up in the air. There will be no Pakistan left," he added.

Lieutenant General (Retired) Hoon also expressed dissatisfaction with the high-level meeting, which was chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, in wake of the hostilities along the Line of Control.

"This high-level meeting should have taken place much earlier with professionals there who know the area and what is going to happen. But at least they have taken a step..," he said.

Pakistan earlier today summoned India`s High Commissioner to Foreign Office in Islamabad and lodged a protest over air space violation by an alleged Indian "spy" drone near the Line of Control and "ceasefire violation".

According to the statement issued by the Foreign Office, High Commissioner T C A Raghavan was called by the Foreign Secretary, Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry to lodge the protest over air space violation at Banchirian Sector near LoC yesterday.

The Indian Army as well as the Indian Air Force, however, denied that any of their drone has been shot down or crashed.Briefing reporters on Pakistani shelling, Foreign Secretary S. Jaishankar today said India will not let its guard down.

He, however, said India is committed to maintain peace and tranquility at the border. Jaishankar said India had sought an end to cross border firing in the series of conversations with Pakistani authorities during the last two days, but there is no positive response.

The Pakistan Rangers violated the ceasefire twice on Wednesday, indulging in firing and mortar shelling in the Akhnoor sector.

Drone shot down by Pak at LoC not sold to any govt: China firm | Zee News
Last Updated: Wednesday, July 22, 2015 - 12:08

Beijing: The Chinese firm, which reportedly manufactured the drone downed by Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC), said the unmanned aircraft was not sold to any government, reinforcing India's stand that it was not in its armed forces' inventory.

Chinese drone maker, DJI, announced that governments are not their direct customers, in response to an earlier report that the alleged Indian "spy drone" shot down by Pakistan was made by it, the Global Times reported.

Earlier in an embarrassment for Pakistan, Chinese official media, the ruling Communist Party of China (CPC)-run People's Daily Online, reported that the phantom 3 drone was made in China by DJI, confirming Indian stance that it was of Chinese design.

The Pakistani army had shot down the drone along the LoC on July 15 claiming it was from India.

Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar who refuted Pakistan's claims of shooting down an Indian drone also said that it was not in the inventory of the Indian defence forces.

Pakistan had summoned Indian High Commissioner to Islamabad TCA Raghavan to lodge a protest over it.

The confirmation by the Chinese official media has put Pakistan in a fix considering the close strategic relations between Islamabad and Beijing.

The Global Times report also quoted DJI as saying that it is not difficult to purchase their drones through its website or through any vendors.

DJI is a Chinese technology company founded in 2006 by Frank Wang and headquartered in Shenzhen, Guangdong.
