RAWALPINDI, Mar 10 (APP): Pakistan and Maldives on Monday discussed to broaden defence relations and expansion cooperation in military training, joint military exercises and defence production. During a meeting between Chief of Defence Force, Maldives, Maj. Gen. Ahmed Shiyam and Federal Defence Secretary, Lt Gen.(Retd) Asif Yasin Malik here, the both sides also emphasized on cooperation in production small arms, ammunition, aircraft like JF-17, Super Mashak and K-8, security vehicles and bullet proof jackets.
Maj. Gen. Ahmed Shiyam said that Pakistan had always been supportive of cordial relations between the two countries and expressed hope that the relationship between the two countries will further deepen.
On the occasion, Asif Yasin Malik added that Pakistan respects sovereignty and integrity of each nation and Pakistan will continue to support Maldives on regional and international forums.
The Chief of the Defence Force, Maldives showed keen interest in the area of training and said that Pakistan has some of the best Armed Forces Training Institutes in the world.
The Defence Secretary expressed hope that ties between the two countries would grow further.
