India has a big chance. They are a sleeping giant, yet to be awakenM+101

India is a fast rising economy. India is the largest importer of defense equipments... now, total indeginition phase is going on in India. ie. Indigenous aircraft carrier ins vikrant ( making India join the elite club of countries ie us, uk, France and soviet who can make their own aircraft carrier), hal tejas mk 2 ( fifth gen multirole combat aircraft), agni 5 ICBM ( again making India join elite club of nation having icbm).. long awaited ins vikramaditya will be inducted to Indian navy on 16 nov 2013 making India the only country in Asia to have 2 aircraft carrier. India is also excelling in space technology. India became the first country in Asia to successfully launch a rocket to mars. in the near future we will see indigenous aircraft carrier ins vikrant 2 (equivalent to Russian and British aircraft carrier), agni 6 icbm (range 10000+km) etc etc etc...M+55

You do realise Spain, Turkey and Australia have made their own aircraft carriersM+20

India becoming a superpower is debatable, though not impossible. I will say that India has made marvelous strides. It has one of the largest economies in the world that will continue to grow, it is governed by a functional democratic government, it has dismantled a centuries-old caste system (though there is still work to be done on the social divide), and it has lots of young people (the last one is extremely important). It has the second largest population in the world and a strong and modernizing military force. I applaud India for it's successes. It still needs work however. It is still lagging behind China in development and strategic viewpoint (India's own political elite have stated that India's inevitable rise is unrealistic). Millions of its citizens still live in poverty. There is also high inequality and entrenched corruption. Plus India is hemmed in by a vast ocean, the tallest mountains in the world, China, and Pakistan who just might end nuking India if a war breaks out. ...moreM+3

Just 30% of the total population in India lives in Urban areas. Still the very strong ever growing infrastructure in some of the cities are exceptional in the world history. I strongly believe India has a very chance of becoming the economy superpower by 2050.Mnew

Russia can be superpower country in the world because its has only potential to be superpower in 21 century. Russia is only one country who had experience about global affairs in politics, military, economic, foreign policy, etc. Russia had most advanced sophisticated weapons in military hardware. Its has world largest stockpile of nuclear weapon and chemical weapon. Finally, Russia (USSR) was once superpower country in the world when America play role to demolished to USSR because America want to be replace in superpower country in world by not showing as brave nation instead of coward nation in the world. As we can see still at present time too by war with undeveloped power country.M-1

An increasing economy, a military more powerful than ever, as well as military action against ISIS has proven, that Russia is pretty much a country that can continue as a superpower in the 21. century.

It's just a matter of time before Russia increases its declining population as well as its production of next generation of weapons.M-1

The Soviet Union collapsed because of poor and weak leadership. Presidents like Yeltsin and Gorbachev prostituted and destroyed the reputation the USSR once had. But now under the leadership of Vladimir Putin, a hardcore patriot, Russian pride has been restored and its economy has stabilized. Western Europe trembles in fear at the thought of Russia, none of the European nations can take on Russia, even less with China as Russia's ally.M

I hate to admit this, but it is becoming more and more powerful each day. Just look at the Ukraine conflict or Syria. Once it leaves the recession it might become powerful again. ItMnew

Pakistan surely should be ranked on the top of the list because in the near future, robots, money, prosperity etc would not be counted by themselves. The thing that will matter will be nuclear power and there is no doubt that Pakistan will take the place of UK and America as a leading nuclear state. On the other hand Pakistan's economy is also increasing and it will become the 15 largest economy by 2020 plus Pakistan is also successfully getting rid of terrorism with the help of its military operation, one should not close his eyes.

We are forgetting the Housing bloom in Pakistan where ten new cities have been created out of nothing by only one group, the Behria town. The housing market alone has generated a trillion dollars economy, likely o multiply five times by 2020. Pakistan also sits on one of the largest Gold reserves (estimated two trillion dollars), the China Pak economic corridor will link Kashgar with Gwader port in Pakistan at the cost of 35 billion dollars, ushering in huge trade and commerce. Pakistan could move up economic ladder at a surprisingly fast pace linking Central Asia with warm waters. Pakistan is also becoming an energy conduit from Gulf and Central Asia to energy hungry India and China, th prospects are unimaginable.M+23

China, India, Pakistan and Russia are the most possible future superpowers, especially China. China, India and Pakistan have very large populations and are developing quickly, and all have nuclear weapons. Turkey is also a possible superpower because of it's powerful economy and large population. Russia has a very powerful military as it is both high tech and largeM+10

China is going to be a second superpower. It's economy will soon at least equal that of the United States. It's still modernizing a military that is still a force to be reckoned with, it has an excellent and growing technological base, and the world's largest population. It still has a lot of problems such as pollution, human rights abuses, income inequality, it needs more democratic reforms, and it has to solve it's problems with Tibet and Taiwan. Plus it's surrounded on all sides by US-Allies, India, and Russia.M

Even though its economic growth have started to shrink, it might become a economic superpower. However it would be hard for China to achieve military dominance in its territory since it share borders with US-Allied nations, India, Russia and some other nations that are no pushovers. The United States will continue to be a superpower. It's got a large population that is continuing to grow. It is one of the largest countries in the world with abundant natural resources. It's bordered by neighbors that pose no threat to the north and south, while being bordered by oceans to the west and east. This pretty much makes invading the United States, a logistical nightmare and impossibility. It has the largest economy in the world with massive industrial and agricultural bases. Many of the largest corporations are home here and the USD is the dominant world currency. Plus American culture is pretty much everywhere. Not to mention we also have the most powerful military in the world with enough firepower to end the world fifteen times over.M+5

I myself am Indian, and I've seen India with my own eyes. The country is sinking in poverty, over 838 million Indians(2/3 of the nation) are in poverty and approx. Half of those in poverty, don't have access to basic resources such as food, running water, electricity and shelter. India's poverty will never let it succeed, and also the prevailing Hindu majority and the current mix of Hinduism(national religion) and gov. Will ruin the country. Recently prime minister modi banned beef in the state of maharashtra in India. A lot of India's workforce is also Muslim and this has angered them, as long as religion rules government, poverty is there, India moght grow a little, but not to a world superpower. Great Britain could be a superpower once again. We remain a centre of engineering and research- with the fastest developing tertiary sector globally. The United Kingdom is still roaring. London used to be the capital of the most powerful nation on Earth and it is still a major city in terms of culture, influence, popularity, and population. Status Quo changes so significantly and unexpectedly and in this game Turkish nation has a lot to offer on her bid to climb on the ladder of world power. After all do an objective historical analysis of Turks not only Ottoman Turks but 16 Turkish Empires of the history. Turks never been colonized unlike Indians and Chinese and they have genuine proudness of their ethnicity where colonized and enslaved nations can not truly grasp as it is nearly impossible for them to feel that. Turks have all the ingredients of becoming a super ruling nation again as they did in the past. Look at all the Muslim nations they are all literally in complete shambles and Turks although are Muslim do not even remotely resemble the rest of the Muslim nations. As we head into the future, countries, especially India, China and USA are hungry for energy and resources. So countries with an abundance of natural resources and energy are those with the most potential to become a superpower, like Canada. Canada does not only have the energy, like petroleum and uranium, but also has food and fresh water. Canada has the largest reserve of fresh water in the world and great agricultural soil. Food and drinkable water are essential for life, but are not generally in abundance.

Global warming is noticeably having a large effect on our planet, but it might have the ability to shape up Canada into a world power. As global warming melts the north, there will be a large abundance of fresh water, farmland and natural resources (oil) available, adding to Canada's already sufficient amount of resources. Not only will global warming grant more resources for Canada, but also an northwest passage. This will be essential for international trade, which is ...moreM+7

You do realize that the USA is the worlds leading producer of natural gas right? It is also expected to become the worlds largest producer of crude oil by 2016. Your argument about the USA not having enough natural resources is invalid.M

Canada's has the natural resources and potential to be an economic superpower. Canada also process tons of the worlds next gold, fresh water. The United States could end up paying Canada billions for this in the future. If Canada puts a hold on the northwest passage they'll be rich using it as an international trade route. Also If anything were to go wrong, Canada has one of the best situations in the world if not the best. This includes; Self sustaining food (more hen enough), and and loads of material (including gas, lumber, pot ash, uranium, the list goes on). And SPACE. As global warming kicks in more of Canada's arctic will melt turning into usable farm land making Canada even more of a recourse giant. All Canada needs is to do is make better decisions and get more people by possibly increasing the immigration limits. Long way to go but set up for successM+5

Significant resources (oil, gas, minerals, wood and water), highly educated and multicultural population and good governance (democracy) makes Canada a winner.M+2

Canada is the best!

Most Possible Future Superpowers - Top Ten List - TheTopTens.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Note:
I personally think the ranking may be off by a couple of numbers, but about 75%, they are projecting the right picture. Although, moving the US to far down the list makes no sense, along with a couple of other countries listed in random orders. But for Pakistan, I'd project top 5th or 6th major power by 2030.

This just confirms what I've been writing about for such a long time. That a prosperous and powerful future is ahead of Pakistan as long as they can eliminate the terrorism all the way and setup a social environment free of violence and intolerant behavior (which is being taken care of as we speak, so good stuff is coming)

@Horus @Irfan Baloch @MastanKhan @DESERT FIGHTER @Desert Fox @Oscar @Ammara Chaudhry @Jango
There's a lot of optimism for Pakistan. But you cannot say it will be the 5th largest economy by 2020. It just isn't possible. If it weren't for PPP ruling the country for five years and doing absolutely nothing then we would be in a much stronger position.

Like I said, the report is about 75-80% accurate. Some stuff is a little off.

Pakistan is projected to be the 15th largest economy by 2020, and 7th by 2035. By 2020, you'd start to see Pakistan's future ambitions shaping up as a regional power in terms of her Naval and Air-force's size and numbers. Influence wise, she's already there but lacks the money. About $ 20-25 billion defense budget for few years (starting from 2019), would make it happen.

Thanks for tagging. :)

Unfortunately, the terrorism was sickening Pakistan and which created many other problems. But Pakistan always had power to become the superpower. The operation Zarb e Azb is bringing terrorism to its end.
This nation is resilient and has courage, capability, and------and is United now to bring the change. Even after all the problems in Pakistan, it is amazingly dealing with the odds to terrorisms.
And you know better than me that Pakistan's economy is getting better. Awareness in youth is the key to success of a society and it's seen in Pakistan's youth today.
Also, fastest growing nuclear arsenal along with having a healthy relation with China and Russia.

And yes it will be superpower by 2025-30. We will see.

Pakistan forever Zindabad.

How we can be 15th largest in 2020 ... There are alot of nations to beat
we currently stood at 26th in Purchasing power and 41th in nominal

You have 37-40% of your economy as a "shadow economy" where people aren't in Tax net. That's getting fixed. Plus the real estate boom is expected to grow (with SPEC phase I going live) to over a Trillion dollar growth. Combine all variables, Pakistan's current economy should stand around $ 1.0 - 1.2 T once the "Shadow Economy" is brought under the tax net, and by 2020, she should be around $ 1.5 - 1.8 T, replacing Mexico.

If things move faster and in the right direction, based in population and CPEC, etc, the natural place for Pakistan is right around where Australia and Russia are. For example, Russian population is 144 million (all ages). Pakistan has a HUGE population of Males between ages 15-25 (50% of the population). Which means they have 30 years of working life left and can be trained and used as educated labor like Indian labor is being used. That offshoring and labor services alone, can take Pakistan to number 15 (check out India's growth from 1995, primarily due to her labor, then that money was channeled into many directions). So outside of India, Pakistan's services and labor aspect is huge between the top 15 economies (and majority of the population speaks English). And she's a nuke state already, so you have all things going for her. My chosen spot for Pakistan by 2022 is number 12, but number 15 for sure without doubts.

China is also in lack of allies and there is few nations that tend to tighten its bonds to China.M+5

The country still wastes billions of dollars a year fighting Pakistan, when its own people are starving. China is also drowning in poverty and currently half of its pop. Is in poverty. Everything might be made in China but their lack of ability to speak English, which is a major setback in ...moreM-13

America was built on principles never before seen and still not seen in any other country in the world. It is the model of the future of the world and as long as the rest of the world does not offer the freedom and liberties that america is built upon, no country will ever match up to us. India, China, and the Soviet Union are drowning in poverty and corruption, they have many more issues to solve before becoming a superpower, and the European countries will just be there, but they wont overtake the US. The best brains that come to the US and those who wish to protect the idea of a free world will never let the US down, we might get hurt economically now and then, but that will never be enough to bring down the greatest nation on the face of this earth.M-5

Great Britain could be a superpower once again. We remain a centre of engineering and research- with the fastest developing tertiary sector globally. Furthermore, London is the finicial Capitol of the world. Our main problem is our aging population and hence lack of. However this can be solved through the commonwealth, which is becoming a more crucial part of British society. Great Britain is playing a long game and instead of investing in nuclear capabilities and military forces we have developed the greatest espionage network, one of the most sophisticated cyber systems and is one of the safest places on earth. We must remember that in the future, wars will be fought through computers and we are the only country equipped to deal with this threat whilst being allied to current superpowers and being the leading middle power!M-1

The United Kingdom is still roaring. London used to be the capital of the most powerful nation on Earth and it is still a major city in terms of culture, influence, popularity, and population. It has a permanent seat on the UNSC and is the leader of the Commonwealth of Nations. They have a strong military with a proud heritage (though it needs a tad bit more funding). It has one of the largest economies in the world, vast cultural influence, and is still a leader in scientific research. There's a reason why they say the Empire Strikes Back.M+2

The British are allies with the US, so defense is no issue. All Britain really has to do is rebuild their navy, and they will rule again. All will fear the British, what they have done in the past, they will do again. The British are a Global Power now, and will rise. They just need to get out of being under both the European and American thumb.M

Britain's population is increasing at a rate of 5 million per decade. At this rate it will be the most populous nation within Europe by 2050 and it's economy will overtake Germany to be the dominant power of the continent. With it's overseas territories being further developed the sun still does not set on the lean remains of the British Empire!Mnew

Current shifts in delicate power balances, regional strategic connections intertwined with the global plans would very well serve the Turkish quest to greatness once again and this was witnessed by the history time and again.M+13

Turkey has a burgeoning economy, and ranks 17th in the world. Turkey also has the tenth strongest military in the world with the 9th most powerful army. Turkey has the second largest army in NATO, and Turkey is continuing ongoing high profile production of military equipment such as tanks, helicopters, missiles, ground defense systems, etc. Not to mention, Turkey is currently building a nuclear power plant which will also enable it to make nuclear weapons which is the only difference between the present day Turkish military and other militaries of countries that are currently superpowers. Turkey is also constructing an air craft carrier which will allow it to confront some of the most renowned navies in the world such as the American or Russian navies.
