ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is likely to get $1.8 billion from the Friends of Democratic Pakistan (FODP) before the end of the current fiscal year, federal Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin said here on Monday.
At a press conference held to launch national savings bonds, Mr Tarin said the government had been expecting $2 billion from the forum, but the pledge was not in an orderly manner.
Donors will definitely give the money but (it will) take some time, he said, adding that a gap of about $200 million to $600 million would be bridged with the help of IMFs stand-by arrangement.
Member countries of the Friends of Pakistan had pledged $5.3 billion, but exact figures about actual receipts are not available. Mr Tarin said that receipts of $1.4 billion were expected before June this year, including $200 million from the United States and about $250 million from other countries. Saudi Arabia had recently paid its share, he said.
Sources said that matters relating to the Friends of Pakistan would now be handled by the Finance Ministry because the Foreign Office had no technical expertise to handle funds related matters.Amin Ahmed
