Pakistan left India behind in field of research, stands beside China in research technology

ISLAMABAD - The Former Minister for science and technology. Atta-Ur-Rehman said that Pakistan has left India behind in the field of Research and now stands beside China in progress towards research technology Dr. Atta revealed the fact during the international conference on “Endorsing Health Science Research” held at Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Auditorium, Ojha Campus of the Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS).

Dr. Rehman informed the members of the conference that due to the establishment of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in Pakistan the research field has witnessed a significant boost. He said that the budget allocated for research and technology has been raised from 1 million rupees to 20 million rupees.

The former minister advised that Pakistan should increase the budget of the private research sector as the countries who are focusing on private research are progressing rapidly.

He stated, *“China spends 60 percent on its private research sector and country like Singapore with 5.5 million population is exporting approximately 330 billion dollars due to which GDP of Singapore is more than the Great Britain which was, in fact, a colony of the latter in the older times”*

Dr. Atta said Pakistan should focus on the trading and exporting of science and technology items. He mentioned that the country has been at a great loss by ignoring science and technology.

I'm sorry that's not correct. India has made leaps in research and has churned out industries as a result. He shouldn't make claims like this.

Atta-Ur-Rehman is living in imaginary world and he need to come back to reality. Pakistan is not even spending 0.1% of GDP on research as we have economic and financial challenges.

both, india is 7 times bigger than Pakistan thus should do 7 times better in R&D than Pakistan but I do not believe it is any more. since Modi came they've been busy doing research on things like cow excretions, social sciences (arts of manipulation) and vedas (to find quick solutions)

if india allocates 50 billion for research, 80% will vanish somewhere else

Hey bro, the website he quoted has no credibility in the scientific community because it is just ranking the countries based on bulk of the paper published.... not on the quality. Indians publish a lot of their research in their own journals and those are pretty low quality and when I was doing Masters, and took a course in scientific writing, the teacher specifically pointed out Indian journals the as lowest quality and most of the research published there is plagiarised from international journals and published after making some minor adjustments.

I think this a major issue, that we have Former ministers and other high ranking officials talking from their arse without presenting any facts. For example, if I claim of anything at work, I would always ensure that I have facts to support my claim. Otherwise my bosses will think I am a looser. But looks like these people can say and get away with anything.
