Pakistan & Iran Agree on Border Fencing : Foreign Office

Pakistan and Iran have agreed to protect the 900 km-long common border with some ‘appropriate measures’ including fencing.

The decision was taken during the second session of the Pakistan-Iran Higher Border Commission (HBC) at the Foreign Office on Thursday.

Pakistan has already fenced a significant portion of its shared border with Afghanistan, just like India did at the Line of Control (LoC).

Describing it as the ‘border of peace and friendship,’ both parties agreed to establish new border crossing points with mutual understanding.

Following the session, the Foreign Office termed the exercise as “a mechanism for consultations between the two countries to discuss all border-related issues.”

It said that the latest sitting of HBC was a followup of the decisions taken during Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to Iran in April. The first session was held on July 2017 in Tehran.

Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry, the Director-General for (Afghanistan, Iran, and Turkey) led Pakistan’s delegation, while the Iranian delegation was led by Director General of International Legal Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abbas Bagherpour Ardekani.

The Volatile Ties of the Neighbours

The smuggling and terror activities at the Pak-Iran border have kept the two neighboring countries at bay for a long time. Their relations have been volatile ever since Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav was arrested on March 2016 while secretly entering Balochistan via Iran.

In April 2017, Karachi’s most-wanted gangster Uzair Baloch was also captured in the area. He had reportedly been spying for Iranian intelligence agencies providing them information regarding army installations and officials to foreign agents. The data is feared to have been passed on to India and Afghanistan as well.

Been hearing it since May:

I think previously, Pakistan had decided to fence the Pak-Iran border herself without any support from Iran. You know since the visit of Saudi Prince MBS, Iran was quite angry with Pakistan and was speaking the language of the enemy. Furthermore, IIRGC trained terrorists were behind the attacks on bus of FC in which many soldiers were martyred and similarly the attacks on PC Gwadar probably came from Iranian side. Right, now they are behaving because of the pressure from the international community and their isolation.

And still the fences along Pak-Afghan and Pak-Iran borders are being constructed during his rule. So keep your hatred and mediocrity to yourself.

To be fair though, it's the army which is responsible for the fencing. If it weren't for them it would not have started and it would not have continued.

. . .
Isnt it sad if Pakistan has fenced borders with 3 of its 4 neighbors?

. .
Iran is not "behaving" because of International pressure. Iran is behaving because no serious threat or attack has come from Pakistan recently(i believe India feels the same way). IF Pakistan allows GCC proxy terrorist Jaish ul adl to do another serious attack, Iran will take the matter into its hands, and Pakistan knows that. Pakistan must either accept responsibility for its International commitments or face the music that retaliation will sing.
You're grossly mistaken sir.

. .
Why? because more trouble comes from the Pakistani side. pls dont argue. thnx.

sort of...but its a dangerous and unstable neighborhood. ALSO, Pakistan accepting money from China or/and GCC combined with its support for Taliban in Afghanistan is obviously complicating its relationship with neighboring countries.
Iran violated Pakistani airspace a few days back. The farsiwans should behave before Tehran gets a spanking. Pakistan and it's people will tolerate such behavior for so long, after patience run dry, people will perish and not Pakistanis.
