Pakistan, India included among 22 drug producing countries
ANWAR IQBAL
WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama has included Pakistan and India on a list of 22 drug producing or major drug-transit countries that “significantly affect the United States”.

Other countries on the list are Afghanistan, The Bahamas, Belize, Bolivia, Burma, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Laos, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela.

The presidential determination order 2016, however, clarifies that a country’s presence on the list does not reflect its government’s counter-narcotics efforts or level of cooperation with the United States.

“The reason major drug transit or illicit drug producing countries are placed on the list is the combination of geographic, commercial, and economic factors that allow drugs to transit or be produced,” the order explains.

It acknowledges that some of these governments have carried out “the most assiduous narcotics control law enforcement measures.”

The presidential order also includes a description of the illegal poppy cultivation in Afghanistan, including it “among the most difficult international drug-control problems”.

It notes that for 15 of the last 16 years, Afghanistan has been the world’s largest producer of opium poppy.

The US government estimated that in 2014 Afghanistan cultivated 211,000 hectares of opium poppy and produced 6,300 metric tons of opium, which is up 7 per cent and 15 per cent over 2013 levels, respectively.

Our drugs save life's

. . . .
By which route? It's more easy to northern Afghanistan routes or Iran?
Iran is under sanction so it is not connected to west like India.
Most of the Drugs goes to western & Europe so, India also have ideal transit point along with Pakistan.

Now come out of this state of denial.

It is not going to solve any problems at all. Work on controlling the production of drugs instead. That would be much beneficial for everyone.

@OP: It is really sad to see Pakistani becoming a drug transit country, we must do everything we can to stop it!

Yeah yeah, right. Are you trying to say, the Indian govt. is involved in letting the Opium being produced in India, a huge undetermined quantity of which is diverted to illicit international drug trade?

As I said, come out of this state of denial!

India, Myanmar listed among largest producers of illegal drugs
...
...

Here one more:

India world's largest opium producer:
world's largest producer of licit opium for the pharmaceutical trade, but an undetermined quantity of opium is diverted to illicit international drug markets; transit point for illicit narcotics produced in neighboring countries and throughout Southwest Asia; illicit producer of methaqualone; vulnerable to narcotics money laundering through the hawala system; licit ketamine and precursor production
