Pakistan in diplomatic push to reset ties with Bangladesh

.
I know this very well. But be sure , after she is gone, at least no one from Zia family will be in power in Bangladesh .
BD is not any family enterprise, Mujib or Zia. Bd needs fair general elections under genuine caretaker govts. Let people decide who is bad and inefficient and who is not.

.
I have no objection, of bd having better relations with pak
I am a bit of hardliner though.

1.I like would an official national apology from pak gov and senior military pak officers to be tried that we're there during 71'.

2.Also bd to be reimbursed fairly of the promised division of assets from pre 71' which pak kept the large amount to itself unfairly.

3.Possible compensations for the victims or family of victims of those civilians murdered during 71.

These few points, will make hardliners like me shut up. Also accept the partnership with pak to the full extent - then both countries can work together to screw india.

Dont go in history, there are so many things which we Pakistanis ask for you guys for Government level apology.
Again this is your one sided story you are following.
Who were the responsible for killing of west pakistanis and their families by Mukti Bahni? Who were the responsible of mass genocide of biharis and after the war putting them into camps in a miserable condition?
Who were the responsible of siding with Enemy India to start unrest and start murdering of West Pakistani Military persons and their families before even any military operation started.

Dont read the India supported history of 1971... There are so much we can ask you to appologize..

If Pakistan Military did all the crime,,, then what was the justification of Zia ur Rehman and its men killed Mujeeb and its family.. and then his wife became the Prime Minister in recent past... If you think that pressing the insurgency by military is a war crime, then why not you are doing prosecution against your own Bangladeshi military persons...

Dont go in past, there were so many reasons of those incidents and so many were responsible including East Pakistani politicians and well along with RAW agents...

Yes, past is past. We must forge a new relationship that will last forever. Our forces are divided into two that needs to be re-united without uniting the two countries under one govt.

By the way, Ziaur Rahman had no hand in killing Sk. Mujib. Hasina Bibi wants to throw Zia to the political dustbin and this is why she repeats this nonsense story of Zia involvement in Mujib killing. If she is right, why Zia did not come to power on 15 August 1975 the day Mujib was killed?

Zia came to power when military and general population ushered him in 7 November 1975. He had not even executed this uprising by the people. On 3 Nov he was arrested by Brigadier Khaled Musharref and people released him on 7th. He saved the country two times at least. This is why people still love and respect him to the displeasure of Hasina Bibi.

@Atlas, Did I say here anything historically wrong?

Then what are you waiting for ? Unit people and come to street , through out the illegal Hasina govt.

Right is something that must be snatch from autocratic regime with brute force . You can't claim your right by blubbering here . So be a man, through Hasina out from power.

AL will not welcome you with rose on their hands . Just take it by force .
Perhaps the brave party of @idune also can try after this Eid ul Azha .

If not then after next Eid , then again after Eid ul Azha and so on. It's called "Eid er pore andolon" that should not be stopped ever .

When I see any Bangladeshi brothers/sisters abroad, i always consider them part of Pakistan with full respect, hope things get better between us and forget our past. We all connected with la ilaha illa Allah bonding and forming as one body. If any part of the body has pain, then the whole body feels that pain.

The testimony of faith in which Muslims testify that there is no god worthy of worship except God (la ilaha illa Allah) needs not only to be uttered with our lips but more importantly to become a divine creed which reaches its full potential through manifesting this testimony in all our lives' activities day in and day out and keep it close in our heart and remember it with every breath we take. So, the country created in the name of la ilaha illa Allah also had the testimony of faith, and we all failed in 1971.

One of the encouraging elements of one's path of self-development is optimism, where despair has no place in Islam. Therefore, even if one broke his vows with God one thousand times, he can always renew his vows again. Thus, the power of repentance is essential in the path to God, and for this reason, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said, "All the sons of Adam err, and the best among those who err are those who repent." I hope we will have a better future and will ask our past mistakes forgiveness from our creator.

I agreed that we should move forward with good relations and mutual trade. There is nothing we can fight upon now. We should work together to eliminate our combined enemies like in our neighbor.

Pakistan in diplomatic push to reset ties with Bangladesh

‘Closer people to people contacts will heal the wounds of the past’

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan is quietly making efforts to mend its ties with Bangladesh after certain developments in the region have provided a window of opportunity to both countries to seek rapprochement.

Diplomatic sources familiar with the development believe that the current regional environment has compelled Islamabad and Dhaka to seek reengagement.

Relations between the two countries have remained tense for the last many years. The two countries have yet to overcome the bitter memories of 1971 events that led to the creation of Bangladesh.

What led to the current low in their ties was the decision taken a few years ago by the incumbent government of Shaikh Hasina Wajid to try and execute several leaders of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami on charges of committing war crimes in 1971.

Pakistan was against such what it called politically motivated trials. It also accused Dhaka of violating the 1974 trilateral agreement between Pakistan, India and Bangladesh. Under the agreement, all countries including Bangladesh had agreed not to pursue cases against people involved in the 1971 events.

Relationship between the two countries worsened to the extent that Pakistan's National Assembly in 2016 passed a unanimous resolution condemning the execution of JI leaders.

Not just that the Bangladesh government refused to approve the appointment of Pakistani High Commissioner for 20 months. Islamabad eventually had to make the fresh proposal for the appointment of Imran Ahmed Siddiqui as envoy to Dhaka. His name was finally approved by Dhaka in November last year. Siddiqui joined the Pakistani mission in Dhaka in January, raising hopes of a thaw in their ties.

Earlier this month, Pakistani envoy held a rare meeting with Bangladeshi Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen. Foreign Office sources were cautious about calling the meeting as "breakthrough" or whether this would lead to breaking the ice.

One of the reasons that foreign office sources were playing down the outreach was to avoid creating unnecessary hype and allowing "spoilers" to undermine such efforts.

Indian media reports expressed alarm over the meeting between Pakistani envoy and Bangladeshi foreign minister, claiming Islamabad was trying to take advantage of India's preoccupation with other issues.

New Delhi and Dhaka have longstanding ties and those relations further deepened when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi came to power in May 2014. India has exercised great influence over Bangladesh and took full advantage of PM Shaikh Hasina Wajid's mistrust with Pakistan.

But India and Bangladesh ties suffered a major blow when Modi government last year passed a controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). The law had triggered massive protests in Bangladesh and in March, Modi had to cancel his visit because of growing anti-India sentiments.

In the middle of this, China also made inroads in Bangladesh by offering economic and other partnership. Dhaka is already part of Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). Recently, Beijing allowed Bangladesh to export goods to China with zero tariffs. Similarly, China has been assisting Bangladesh dealing with Covid-19 pandemic.

As a result of this cooperation, Bangladesh surprisingly kept quiet over the recent military standoff between India and China. Dhaka even did not offer condolences to India over the killing of its 20 soldiers including a Colonel during a bloody fight with China in the high altitude Ladakh region.

Observers believe that the changing dynamics offered a good opportunity for Pakistan and Bangladesh to revisit their troubled ties.

A senior foreign office official said Pakistan wants to reset ties with Bangladesh. The official, however, said this reset was not aimed at any other country.

"Pakistan and Bangladesh share common bonds of history, culture and religion," the official said adding that, "there is a strong desire on both sides to strengthen bilateral relations."

There is a growing sense in Pakistan that the younger generation is especially keen to forge meaningful ties.

Also, Pakistan is appreciative of Bangladesh's "remarkable economic achievements," said the official.

At the same time, there is an acknowledgement that events of 1971 are the most painful chapter of the two countries' common history.

"Closer people to people contacts between two peoples will promote reconciliation and mutual understanding. This will heal the wounds of the past," Pakistani official stressed.

Although the above is a positive step, there is a HUGE major flaw with it.

For over 45 years, Pakistan and bangladesh have had many official meetings that have called for improvements in ties and relations but NOTHING ever comes of it as NO deals, MoUs, joint ventures or bilateral initiatives are EVER signed. These meetings are just a discussion and exchange of opinions. NOTHING more.

71 happened because of two egotistical assholes. Bhutto and mujeeb. Both died at the hands of their own men. For politics they had many many men and women suffer

Mujeeb was not egotistical. In the 71 fiasco Bengalis had no fault, plain and simple. It was the fault of Pakistani establishment, mainly the military.

I would these issues resolved so hardliners and bd as country as whole can whole heartedly participate in a partnership of ripping india a new one.

FYI, Indian forces only showed in the last 3 months of the war. Before that it was all bengali.

In reality, BD is losing more in trade than Pakistan as one Pakistani poster has already mentioned earlier. BD needs to enlarge its textiles market in Afghanistan and the five central Asian countries.

I am not sure if Kabul will allow trade via Pakistan, but if it does so, BD can export to all these countries whereby Pakistani govt/traders get their fare share of earning by working as go-between, Karachi/Gwaddar port service, truck/rail transportation and labor for loading and unloading works.

Both our two countries win. Even Afghanistan can get benefits out of this trade. BD traders will have to depend upon Pakistani traders for getting orders and go through all those hazardous roads via Afghanistan.

On the other hand, BD traders will get access to the long-fiber cotton in the Central Asian countries. Our Muslim brothers there also need market for this high-grade product.

Yahya Khan should have convened the National Assembly Session in Dhaka on 25 March as promised. It would have saved the face of Mujib and his associates. Instead, he ordered PA troops to kill people.

Mujib wanted the Assembly to elect a new PM and he was ready to accept Yahya Khan to continue as the President of the country. You have to analyze Mujib's 7 March speech to understand what I said above. In political speeches, there are things that should be read in between lines.

Mujib wanted a balance by accepting a certain role of the military establishment.

I actually think u have a good idea and are sincere about ur feelings. Your 1st point is though really harsh. Any single party taking the whole past blame will not be acceptable to anyone. Pakistan may offer apology if BD also offers apology for taking indian help. Even the indians have accepted their role and even boast about it. Or we can settle for a mid ground, something acceptable to both, that does not embarrass any party. The point should be to improve relations and not fix blames.
Your 2nd n 3rd point is something both can make a deal easily.
