Pakistan: Four killed in railway blast in Balochistan

KARACHI, (AA): At least four passengers were killed and another 10 wounded Sunday when a bomb was detonated by remote control along a railway line in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province, which shares borders with both Iran and Afghanistan, according to local officials.
The blast occurred along a railway track in Balochistan’s Dasht area of Mastung district some 50 kilometers from the provincial capital of Quetta, local railway official Faiz Bugti told reporters. The train was Rawalpindi-bound Jaffar Express.
The blast damaged the track, Bugti said, resulting in an hours-long suspension of railway traffic.
No group has so far claimed responsibility for the attack, but remotely-detonated blasts along rail lines have been a key tactic of secular Baloch separatists in the past.
In a separate incident the same day, six suspected Baloch separatists were killed by Pakistani security forces in the Qalat district roughly 300 kilometers from Quetta.
Khan Wasehy, a spokesman for Pakistan’s frontier corps, which carried out the security operation, said that those killed belonged to the separatist Balochistan Liberation Army.
For decades, resource-rich Balochistan has seen a low-intensity insurgency by separatists who say the region’s gas and mineral resources are being unfairly exploited by other richer parts of the country, especially Punjab, Pakistan’s largest province.
