ISLAMABAD: At least 12 alleged terrorists were reportedly killed by Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) fighter jets. PAF targeted militant hideouts in Rajgal, located in Tirah Valley of Khyber’s tribal region.
Over a dozen more hideouts were destroyed during the air raid which was launched after a long pause, in later hours. This was the second air strike carried out by Pakistan Air Force in almost a week’s time span, along the Pak-Afghan border.
Fighter jets carried out ‘precision strikes’ on the targeted positions in Tirah Valley, located in the west of Peshawar city, during early hours of Sunday.
The armed forces had launched a successful operation against the militants holed up in the Tirah Valley.
Tirah straddles Tora Bora, the valley that served as the last sanctuary of Al Qaeda militant group before its leadership seeped into Pakistan’s tribal region following the American invasion of Afghanistan in 2001.
The forces had evicted the militants and taken full control of the valley. However, in some pockets of the valley, the militants managed to sustain their presence from where they launch sporadic attacks on checkpoints manned by Pakistani security personnel.
