Pakistan, Fearing U.S. visa ban, cracks down on militant group

I think the policy; is good. I think the implementation is bad. Unless there was specific intelligence of upcoming attacks facilitated by the JUD.

Because this makes it look like we bowed under pressure; that Modi and the Trumpster can get their way if they bark at us. As this article illustrates. That will only lead to further pressure.

Policy of appeasement never works. Even when you term it a national interest. Pakistan will find out soon enough whether this was a good or bad move.

The way I see it, this is all just a cosmetic "gesture" of sorts. For 6 months he was placed under a similar house arrest (despite lack of evidence). The courts cleared him due to lack of evidence. The "evidence" presented by india was mostly either heresay or prose (pictures of "made in Pakistan cigarettes" or other such 'memorabilia')

I don't see HS as an impediment to even an uneasy peace between Pakistan and india. The issue is Kashmir.

I'm still surprised to see that some international media like BBC are claiming there's a "bounty" on HS for $10 million. The Americans THEMSELVES are on the record even 4 years back stating they dont have evidence that could withstand judicial scrutiny against this man.

See below (start at 1:35)

This whole cycle will go on and on and on. Trump is facing enough domestic resistance and there are a lot of question marks about his admin just barely 2 weeks into his inauguration. I don't think Pakistan Govt. should worry too much about empty bravado from Mr. Bronze-Spray. At the same time Pakistan does have its obligations to act against terrorist groups both foreign and domestic and given that the security situation in Pakistan is much more favourable now (to the angst of some hostile neighbours) - I'd say Pak Govt/Security Establishment have done well and should maintain course.
Already the establishment media has started to utter the dreaded words like "Nixon", "Watergate", "sacking AG". "losing US power projection", "make China great again", "Putin/KGB/Russia" etc. etc......

The ban will be really beneficial for the ordinary people who got nothing to lose. Their loyalty lies with Pakistan. They will live and die on their soil. The rich elite who have stacked their money and acquired property in the US have everything to lose after this ban. The only group of people that I feel sorry for are hardworking ordinary Pakistanis who earn a few dollars through lawful means. They will be unfairly targeted. Other than that, the ban is going to force our leaders to rectify their priorities, commitment and loyalty towards Pakistan. The shameful prostration towards Washington should come to an immediate halt after the ban.

In the meanwhile, Pakistan should continue to solidify its relationship with China on all fronts. It should continue to wipe out miscreants and restore peace and stability as it has already done in the past.

Its not the visa ban but FMS ban and financial sanctions which motivated boys to ultimately abandon Saeed.
Government knew it was coming as soon as she decided to reach out to Trump
Tarar, who moved to the US more than 30 years back and got nationality in the 90s, said the president-elect would certainly adopt a ‘very tough’ stance against terrorism. “I can tell you that there will be straight talk now onwards on this issue,” said Tarar, who still frequently visits his country of origin and owns a house in Islamabad.

In the changing scenario, he has a word of caution for Pakistan saying the country “needs to put its own house in order because the Trump administration will not tolerate double talk on the issue of terrorism anymore.”

A further spanner was thrown as the most idiotic presser released from PM house containing literally the telephonic conversation between Trump and NS.
Boys are also feeling the burnt as CSF and FMS flows dry out. Chinese give you toys on loans but not as freebies like US does.

Anyone criticizing India for its atrocities in Kashmir is deemed an enemy. No surprise there.

Strategic re-alignments......in the 1970s and 80s india was shamed for its genocide of our Kashmiri people. indians were seen as pawns of the soviets.

We should focus on Pakistani law. The courts -- not PDF Forum - have exonerated him so many times. He'll likely be released again on bail and/or the courts will determine that the house arrest is illegal. Making anti india speeches or pro Kashmir sermons is not against Pakistani law. We go by Pakistani law not British law not American law and certainly not indian law --- which failed to provide justice to the 75+ Pakistani victims who were burned alive aboard the Samjhota Express.....the indians may have thought we forgot and forgive. I sure havent and Im sure some of you feel the same

It's all just politics and cosmetic gestures. Pakistan wont bend to the wishes of india the way Sheikh Hasina's Bangladesh does. india has zero leverage here and to be quite frank, the US can squeeze our bureaucrats in Islamabad but not the security establishment.....they need GHQ to be on their side, even if ostensibly. We have the luxury of being able to also work with the Chinese, Russians (hopefully more so in coming years) and the Turks --- all of which have the means to help bring stability to Afghanistan through soft power and statecraft

Pakistan and Trump won't get along. That is a fact we have to embrace.

It'll be a love-hate relationship......Our ties with US military wont change too drastically. The intel sharing will continue (on need basis)...Nawaz had the bloody GALL to attend Modi's swearing in ceremony - one of the single largest blunders of his career. He can shower a few gifts on trump, offer a few tailor made dresses for that trophy wife of his and maybe they'll get along (behind closed doors)

Pakistan has its own posturing to do for the public, so does the USA....i dont see any major changes. Our responsibility is to make sure Pakistani territory isn't used to cause any trouble elsewhere. But we need to make it clear that when we are attacked via india and its proxies - we will respond mercifully; through direct military as well as asymmetric warfare...the indians have done it and still do it....let the chickens come home to roost. Hell with them

I know I come across as hawkish, but those are just my views and i could care less for those who disagree

That is a good analysis. One I cannot disagree on any point.

We welcome these developments with open arms. They feel very liberating.

As for the ban, time will prove that it was a wrong decision to make. Trump will do whatever he has to do. Banning any person won't change that fact.

Pakistan and Trump won't get along. That is a fact we have to embrace.

State making compromises and adjustments with foreign nations to win personal favors... This arrest is going to set wrong precedent.

Not really on topic of the so called fear of US Visa ban, but on topic of the JuD which has come under attention

https://tribune.com.pk/story/1314323/raising-voice-hindus-protest-hafiz-saeeds-house-arrest/

KARACHI:

Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) demanded an immediate end to the house arrest of their chief, Hafiz Saeed, during protests organised in different parts of the city on Wednesday.

Members belonging to the Hindu community also joined the JuD’s protest at Karachi Press Club on Wednesday.

JuD leader Dr Muzamil Qureshi said that they condemn the house arrest of their leader and that the government has acted on international pressure.

Pakistan snubs India’s statement on JuD chief’s detention

A member of the Hindu Panchayat from Thar, Bano Bheel, said that Saeed may be a terrorist for India or United States of America. However, for the people of Thar, he has proven himself to be a great philanthropist, he said.

Protests were also organised at Water Pump Chowrangi, Johar Chowrangi, Sakhi Hasan Chowrangi, Native Jetty Bridge, Tipu Sultan Road, Shaheen Complex, Punjab Chorangi, Drigh Road and Godown Chowrangi, Korangi.

The Interior Ministry snubbed on Wednesday India’s demand for a “credible crackdown” against militant groups following the detention of Jamaatud Dawa (JuD) chief Hafiz Saeed.

India urges ‘credible crackdown’ following Hafiz Saeed’s detention

“Pakistan does not need any certification or endorsement from India over the recent actions it has taken in relation to Hafiz Saeed,” a spokesperson for the federal Interior Ministry said in a statement in response to Tuesday’s statement by Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

The spokesperson said the actions taken by the government were carried out as per “obligations vis-à-vis listing of JuD under UN Security Council Resolution 1267 in December, 2008”. He, however, said various actions that needed to be taken under the relevant resolution i.e. arms embargo, travel ban and asset freeze were not taken for some reasons by the previous regime.

India thinks Hafiz Saeed is a Terrorist but Courts in Pakistan has released him countless times on lack of proofs, He is a well known Social Worker/ His party JUD...

Indians have good influence and clout in Washington these days.

Indo Americans are the richest and mostcsucessful ofcall ethnic groups.

India will use USA to squeeze Pakistan at every opportunity.

Be it cancelling f16 0r getting visa banned

If Pakistan had Indian level of soft power they would do the same surely
