Pakistan envoy summoned over insulting remarks on Bangabandhu

And if they don't, then others have to do the job, yes? Furthermore, the implication is that lots of other countries are as guilty as Pakistan when in fact most don't merit to be tarred with the same brush.

Z.A. Bhutto created a commission on the 1971 debacle and buried it: it was his weapon in reserve to wield against the military if it got too uppity. Naturally, that created a powerful incentive for military leaders to make Z.A.B. enemy #1 as soon as they could.

Authoritarian thinking is Pakistan's downfall - the thinking that person and power makes judgments even in denial of law and objective truths.

Perhaps what Bengalis desire is for Pakistanis to do justice to their own - by prosecuting war criminals or at least wringing out and confessing to the truth of their crimes.

And in 1971 Bengalis were vilified in West Pakistan as Hindu puppets and worse. That helped empower the genocide. It shows the power of government-directed hate and the need to oppose governments who try to wield it.

I guess you know more about history than Historians themselves. You are a typical American posing yourself as holier than thou material when your own country has killed more people in last century than any in history. Americans themselves helped pakistan in 1971 and reason was that Bangali uprising was supported and financed by soviets and indians from get go. So you might want to read a little bit of history rather than spouting self concocted nonsense. Better yet clean your house from war criminals rather than accusing others of war crimes. I dont even need to mention Afghanistan and Iraq where you yankees killed and still killing civilians in the name of your so called national security. Then there is libya and not to mention your crown achievement syria where you Americans the so called world police incited a rebelion against asad. After you rebilion created mess on scale no one created in history now you are kissing same guys arse to pull out of that war as well. You Americans of all people shouldnt lecture anyone on morality PERIOD.

I agree with you and don't forget war crimes in Vietnam war and the Nuclear bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima in Japan.

Wow you are so disgusting...you are acting as if the Bangladeshis did no wrong in the 1971 war.

The Mukti Bahini also killed innocents especially Biharis in East Pakistan.

You are a hypocrite.

You invest too much in authority.

...your own country has killed more people in last century than any in history.
Killing isn't the same as murder.

Americans themselves helped pakistan in 1971
To our lasting shame.

and reason was that Bangali uprising was supported and financed by soviets and indians from get go.
It was clear then that it was West Pakistani intransigence and mass-murdering racism that fuelled the Bengali uprising.

You Americans of all people shouldnt lecture anyone on morality PERIOD.
Which is just you saying, "Let me commit crimes without fear of being punished for them", isn't it?

I know you have ignored me, but you should be the last to lecture us on racism.

Do you know how Blacks were treated in America and called the "N" word.

African Americans were whipped by the so called White Americans.

So go to hell you Zionist trash.

Of course, you guys must be having a great reason for that.

Yes, others could do the job. But then the application of the law, and punishment should be meted out to all war criminals evenly. What we see now is that some countries commit war crimes (even genocide) with impunity because they know they can get away with it. Pakistan's crimes are grossly overstated by some groups to support their own narrative. There are others whose crimes are far more egregious.

Z.A. Bhutto created a commission on the 1971 debacle and buried it: it was his weapon in reserve to wield against the military if it got too uppity. Naturally, that created a powerful incentive for military leaders to make Z.A.B. enemy #1 as soon as they could.

You have rightly pointed out the problem with such commissions, whether by a government or an international body. They are almost always created not to serve justice, but as an instrument of blackmail or a means to put pressure. The question then remains, who would determine that such a commission should be created, and who will be the judge.

Authoritarian thinking is Pakistan's downfall - the thinking that person and power makes judgments even in denial of law and objective truths.
Laws are created by men (women). "Truth" is subjective. Even systems of government are a response to the realities of the governed. Your judgement may very well mean nothing to me.

That was in the past dude and White Americans have admitted for decades that this was wrong.

When will Pakistan own up and apologise for their wrongdoings?

When will Bangladeshis own up for their wrongdoings of Mukti Bahini.

Even if the White American owned up, doesn't change the fact they did wrong.

Stop defending them. You should be the last to be defending them. lol.

Ultimately, this is a sad thread.

The question is how many of us were actually there in Bangladesh in 1971?

I wasn't. I wasn't even born. All I knew is what little I read about it.

I'm sure thats the case with most people on this thread.

However, I was curious since joining this forum and did reach out to several individuals in my life that WERE there in 1971.

These are credible, educated and otherwise normal balanced people.

It was a mess.

The atrocities DID occur by the Pakistani army.

There were revenge and counter revenge type situations amongst neighbors.

You can argue about the magnitude and numbers all you want.

The fact of the matter is Bhutto did what he did for his own selfish reasons.

Mujib never wanted an independent Bangaldesh despite what Bengali revisionists are now saying.

If you wanna blame somebody for breaking up the two Pakistans, then blame Bhutto.

Agreed with you that the Pakistani army were very cruel to the Bangladeshis. That is correct. I am not denying this.

.
Looks like BD government has too much time at hand.
A while ago I posted a video of who first declared Bangladesh independent which was not Shaikh mujeeb as he was in prison in Mianwali at the time.
Due to me posting the video on my Facebook page Pakistani envoy in Dhaka was summoned. That's sad., absurd and totalitarian .
Actually after this new rubbish from BD government let's all Pakistani FB pages start a campaign about the BD government and show them our version of the truth

I would agree that the greater responsibility for what happened lies with Bhutto. But those who allied themselves with India, essentially became traitors and their actions were not justified. The army responded with a heavy hand, and that should not have happened either..

But at the end of the day, this was a problem within the family. It should have been resolved within the family.

Agreed to some extent.

I would also add that its time to move on.

The US and UK also fought a war at one point.

It's ok to remember the past.

Mistakes and misteps happened from both sides.

But its 2019 and continuously re-focusing on the past actually does damage to the present and future for
both Pakistan and Bangladesh.
