Pakistan enjoys world support against Indian ‘designs’: Gilani

MULTAN: Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that Islamabad enjoys world support and its diplomacy and foreign policy are strong enough to ‘defeat’ Indian plans to isolate Pakistan.

The prime minister made the comments while addressing journalists after a public meeting in Qasim Bela here. Gilani described reported Indian plans to get Pakistan declared a ‘terrorist state’ as wishful thinking, and said Pakistan’s diplomacy and foreign policy would not allow India to succeed.

About an upcoming visit by US envoy Richard Holbrooke, Gilani said he believed that terrorism was a regional issue and should be tackled at the regional level. “However, Pakistan will be able to give its opinion after meeting the US envoy for the region,” he said.

About the Mumbai terror attacks, the prime minister refused comment on the possibility of Indians also being involved in the attacks, saying an investigation report would be tabled at a meeting of the Defence Coordination Committee today (Monday) and Pakistan would give its response after studying it. Separately, the prime minister told Newsweek that those found guilty in the investigation would be tried under the law of the land.
