A Pakistani military transport aircraft carrying 22 tons of rice arrived at Wuhan airport in central China's Hubei Province late on Aug. 22. It was the first batch of the country's planned donation of 10,000 tons of rice to the flood-stricken province.

The Pakistani government's decision to make donations to China came in the wake of six rounds of torrential rains that hit Hubei. From June 18 to July 31, ******** and subsequent floods caused damage to 98 county-level prefectures in the province, affecting 17.85 million people, 1.55 million of which have been evacuated to temporary settlements.

After the first delivery of rice by air, the subsequent donations will be shipped by water to the local port, said a local newspaper.

PS: We are indebted to China for helping us through every thick and thin and this is just a small token of gratitude from our side. Thank U China for accepting our gift.

BEIJING: In a novel public relations exercise, China has accepted aid from Pakistan, which has been the recipient of Chinese generosity in a wide range of fields. Chinese authorities allowed a Pakistani military transport aircraft to bring in rice for flood stricken areas of central China's Hubei province.

The idea is to rationalize Chinese assistance for people who are affected by floods almost every year in Pakistan's Gilgit Baltistan and other areas falling in I Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, observers said. Chinese troops often go to the disputed areas, which is claimed by India, in the plea that they are helping out flood victims for humanitarian reasons.

The Pakistani aircraft brought in 22 tons on rice to the Wuhan airport, state media said. The aid supply came more than three weeks after the floods ended in Hubei on July 31. Pakistan is a beneficiary of a $46 billion project sanctioned by Chinese president Xi Jinping for building an economic corridor passing through the country and ending in Gwadar port on the Arabian Sea.

This is possibly the first time China has received assistance from Pakistan. Given China's superior economic conditions it has no need for rice donations from a relatively poor country like Pakistan. Besides, the normal Chinese diet comprises of small grain sticky rice which is entirely different from the kind of rice produced in Pakistan.

Observers said the purpose is to enhance Pakistan's image among ordinary Chinese. Pakistan's image has eroded over rising suspicion that a lot of terrorism in Xinjiang province is being fueled by the Taliban in Pakistan which is connected to it.
The local media said Pakistan will send more supplies to Hubei but the rest will come to the local port by sea. The floods affected 17.85 million people in 98 county-level prefectures in the Hubei province. About 1.55 million had been evacuated to temporary settlements, local media said.

disgusting what else you can expect from indian media:hitwall:

. . .
That is huge. How much does Pakistan consume domestically?
Wheat is the staple crop right?

Majority of the rice crop is surplus in Pakistan as U are right to point at wheat being a staple crop. From 2015/16 harvest we have Surplus stocks of wheat, sugar and rice and efforts are afoot to utilize this stock to best as to avoid it being wasted, which sadly was being wasted than exported before due to many reasons.

Unbelieveable. This is ridiculous level of reporting but not surprising at all.

Anyway a very good move by pak govt. China is our friend and our brother and has helped us out multiple times thus it is our duty to help anyway we can. A donation of a thousand ton rice is huge and will feed countless people.

Well done.

No you morons this isn't the first time China has received assistance from Pakistan, they have in the past as well and no this has nothing to do with China superior economic strength but a show of solidarity that people of Pakistan stand with China in thick and thin.

.
There is no need for Thread for such generous activity...it should be done in quite without knowing your other hand

The thread wasnt intended to show the "helping hand" but mainly to show totally different reporting from two different media houses. See how China reported the news with humility and then compare it with TOI.
