What's new

Pakistan Domestic 155 mm artillery gun is under test and trial : HIT

Some private company did work on portable ballistic computers (if I remember correctly) but I don't they were inducted.
I do remember seeing something of sorts in a recent exercise in Sindh.... It was released by ISPR.

This?

Yes, HIT has been working on this project for quite a while now, they have attempted to make 155MM gun barrels once before, but the end product was not upto mark. However this one seems a bit more promising, I’ve seen it when it was under the works. It is a Towed 155 Gun, but it’s made in a modular enough way that if they wanted to turn it into an SP they could do so with a suitable platform (maybe they’ve already done work on that as well, though I’m not aware of it).

This may also tell why PA has been holding back on Tower Arty procurement but going ahead with SP arty testing despite having a lot of SPs in service already.

Lastly, if this gun can pass its trials and the military likes it, then it could go a long way in helping with the armies long term modernization plan (COAS recently announced specifically that they’d be modernizing the core of artillery, currently we can see that the armored core is being modernized with VT4s and AK-1s, PA has similar plans for other cores)

If that's the one, than it looks to be influenced by M109. I'll not be surprised though.

Winning GCC investment was as easy as asking them, Arabs are always interested in business opportunities, infact recently they were looking for defense ventures with reliable partners.

Yup, money flows through their hands like water. But, it's up to a strong relationship building foreign policy to get those hands to sign checks for investments.

the ones we acquired from Italy were all towed ones, right?

PA has 350+ 155mm SP in service but a handful of 155mm towed pieces
SP fit an offensive role as they can keep pace with armor and infantry, towed ones are better for fixed defensive position with lots of ammo dumped nearby

Personal choice? SP all day long. I think towed is a lot of work but very flexible.

Care to explain? Who's you 2?
MRAPS don't win a war, artillery can devastate the enemy formations

I want to be happy on this news but can't. Soldiers are dying daily due to lack of MRAP and our entire focus is on other weapon systems which could wait.
