A leading R&D organisation in Pakistan is currently developing a robust solution for different asymmetric requirements of the Armed Forces. To satisfy these requirements an Unmanned Sentry System is under development, the system will be equipped with all weather, day/night engagement capabilities. Although the system will be mostly supported by AI software, it will have man in the loop dependency. Troops will be able to operate the system from secure locations, thus resulting in limited human casualties.

The system will have both electromagnetic and optical target identification and engagement capabilities and is envisioned to work in a netcentric environment with unmanned airborne and ground based assets. The system will be used to protect static installations in remote regions and borders.

THIS was SO needed and it's absolutely great! Our jawans and boys are losing life to sob talibans. We need AI and Robotic tactical machine guns and other munition deployed through out Afghanistan to protect our soldiers and take care of the threat remotely. Soldiers only interfere when needed.

Who is building it? Any details on the platform? Thanks for sharing!

Can't disclose the name of the organisation.

Top level protection given in high threat areas and personnel especially in Balochistan and Pak-Afghan border vs poor relatively safe and less vulnerable inner cities and provincial capitals given no attention:

Guess be it military or politics, all is sh*t.

Such good news. I bet we can have AI in our swarm drones (not present) and glide bombs. Also, for A100, in some but not in all missiles.
You just need one feedback (camera usually) and intelligent communication and algorithms for maximum and effective damage.

Do they have the capacity to build high quality capable systems?

There is a big question mark on this, judging by the general lack of competency in basically every other institution and sector from the ground-up. Just like the fifth generation stealth fighter got nowhere.

Until they don't fix the structural issues none of these R&D sectors, etc, will thrive. Nepotism and incapable undeserving people leading projects. Not the environment that let's capable minds thrive and express themselves.

Can it help the top brass grow a pair and make better strategy? Without the will, toys are just toys with --- at best --- tactical impact. Still a good initiative, though...

Also, I wonder why this took so long: these systems have been around for a while, and 'computer vision' type AI isn't new. Better late than never?

Dude all of the tech components already exist, all you need is a custom software and systems integration.

Pakistan also developed ground surveillance radars in Raheel Sharif era. Was to be mass-produced and deployed to seal off Afghanistan and Iran borders with Pakistan. Then nothing happened.

Well worth the investment, we'll need them deployed on all our borders for centuries to come.
