If we look into the past. Nations such as United States, Ottomon Empire, Russia, Britain were largely insignificant powers in the international community. Their rise largely being through economic, military, and political means.

Where the defence industries of these nations played a vital role. The extent of sophistication of a nations's defence industry determines to a great extent how the country is able to project itself globally.

Now, with crumbling of traditional ways in which countries used to project their power and form a clout. And rise of a multi-polar dynamic world. Pakistan is at a cross roads. Where there is a feeling of wariness of being bogged down and a desire for progress in its citizens. Furthermore, the mass injections of Chinese investment through the OBOR initiative Pakistan has a golden oppurtunity, if leveraged effectively by its people and leadership could yield enormous dividends for the nation as a whole. Where, if instead of simply transitioning from US influence to Chinese influence, Pakistan's people can make use of their vast, readily available, affordable labor pool and harness local talent; will in fact give Pakistan a shot at becoming a major rising power. This does require dedication, a mass overhaul of institutions and psychology of populace, to instill entrepreneurship, leadership and a work ethic in the population.

Just like the nations discussed earlier Pakistan's defence industrial set up also has a very central to the rising dynamics of global and regional changes. If like CPEC Pakistan can utilize its local talent and labor effectively to come up with weapons systems that are of top quality and yet easy on the wallet. Defence solutions that are product of an out of the box thought process could become a major driving factor for Pakistan to be able to make massive economic gains. Moreover, offering easily accessible yet sophisticated defence platforms would even allow Pakistan more political leverage as well. If Pakistan can offer the world something that is uniques, unavailable and also affordable their will be a lot of demand for such goods. Whether, in the defence market or in other markets.

The most important regions would be the under dog nations(as I like to call them). Nations who are wary of excessive US chenanigans. Who are also slowly climbing the ladder of progress and shedding US influence. Namely: South Americas, Africa, Central Asian & Balkan nations, Pakistan's own backyard(Iran,Afghanistan), small countries in ME like Tunisia, Morocco, Algeria and to some extent Asian countires as well.

Other nations also recognize a growing demand for military systems. Hence, we see a country like Turkey investing greatly in trying to expedite the process of it's military industry becoming self sufficient and eventually a major weapons exporter.

I think Pakistan is also realizing this and beginning to look into it's own sphere of influence.

So, Pakistan has great emerging oppurtunities, one of those oppurtunities is in the form of emerging military needs. The major question is will Pakistan be able to leverage it's indigenous talent pool and labor to become a major player in the defence market. The Pakistan armed forces seem to be committed to pursuing this avenue. But an even important question is will palyers from the Public domain be able to step up and offer unique, sophisticated and affordable defence solutions to the international market???

in short all you need to know, you don't need ten thousand weapon to encounter ten thousand, you need one to rule them all.
pakistan should concentrate on that "one" so you don't have to waste money for others.you can spend money in infrastructure after you get that "one".

.
The point is for Pakistan to export weapons. Not for itself in this case.

If u pointin to nukes.
Nukes alone ain't gonna cut it.

BTW your post was off topic.

no,i wasn't talking about nukes, neither it was off topic. :D
before you export it,you need to make it.
you can do it in two ways.
either you can do what above mentioned countries do.
or may be you can make something that can change the fate of warfare and people's life forever.you won't require these huge military or these equipment that worth hundreds of billions.
it's a shame whenever we talk about power, people always think of nukes and icbm.for me these are fairly outdated ideas.Human never learned how to control the power that outmatches any.You can use the same power in different ways, using it in form of nukes and icbm is insult to the very power that fuels the sun and stars. :D
we should learn something from mother nature.she is the answer for all of our question. think about it. :enjoy:

I for one think that we should go for middle and low technology markets e.g. small arms, ammunition, cheap A.T.G.M.S and M.A.N.P.A.D.s , trainer planes and light or medium multirole jets. It is quiet clear that the higher technology market i.e. heavy multirole jets, ballistic missiles, S.A.M.s and heavy M.B.T. sales will be dominated by the U.S.A. and Russia and to a lesser extent by the European states and China since these nations have alot of political and economic influence on other states (lobbying).
We have already had some success in the lower and middle technology market e.g. sale of ammunition and small arms by P.O.F. to Gulf and African countries, while in the private sector, Daudsons has sold shotguns and hunting rifles locally and even in the U.S.A. (they are now developing automatic grenade launchers and other goodies).
Other sales include Baktar Shikan, Anza, Super Mushak and even the JF-17 has had some sales.

I am of the belief that JF17 has potential to become Mig-21 or F16 of our times. If we develop an advanced comprehensive business model.

Industries don't work under officer shahi culture
In Pakistan both civil and military institutions have same old colonial era thinking and culture

.
That's dlowly gonna go away(feeling in my bones tells me so).
Government or leadership make our people, especially youth realize that if we won't keep pace or compete with the world others will stomp on us and leave us behind.

Nay till the time we get rid of burecracy ,business runs differently and one has to learn from AMericans where defense contractors are not armed forces

.
Hence I pointed out the involvement of private sector. And yes corrupt mind does seem to be going away very slowly. As their is hightened awareness and desire by people to actually move forward.

Good thread. Pakistan needs to invest massively in this industry not just for self sustainability but to explore foreign markets, business development and to reinvest profits back into research and development. Pakistan have done a remarkable job so far however need to involve the private sector much more to take this industry to the next level
