Pakistan court rejects Nawaz Sharif's objections to supplementary case in Panama Papers scandal

Pakistan today rejected ousted premier Nawaz Sharif's objections to the supplementary case filed against him and his family by the country's anti-graft body over properties in London.

The court holding trial in graft cases against Sharif and his family decided that the supplementary case would be made part of the record in the Avenfield flats case.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on January 22 filed a supplementary case with the accountability court's registrar in Islamabad which is already trying Sharif and his family -- two sons Hussain and Hassan, daughter Maryam, and son-in-law Safdar -- for alleged corruption in three cases.

The cases are related to the Panama Papers scandal that had forced the 68-year-old three-time prime minister to resign.

Accompanied by daughter Maryam and son-in-law Mohammad Safdar, Sharif for the 15th time appeared in the court located in Islamabad.

During the hearing today, conducted by Judge Muhammad Bashir, Nawaz Sharif's lawyer Khawaja Haris had raised an objection over the supplementary reference, saying there is nothing new in it.

"The reference has been filed in line with the JIT report and no Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA) report has so far been filed," said Haris.

According to him, the NAB had said that a supplementary reference would be filed when new evidence is found against the suspects but that is not the case. "The supplementary reference had to be filed in reply to a legal consultation."

Haris stressed that the supplementary reference was not as per the order of the top court and thus could not be accepted.

"The supplementary reference was filed to target Sharif and even in that reference, the same allegations - already levelled in the interim reference - were repeated," he said.

The three cases against the Sharif family pertain to the Al-Azizia Steel Mills, several companies including Flagship Investment Ltd, and London's Avenfield properties.

Sharif and his sons have been named in all three NAB cases, while Maryam and Safdar have been named only in the Avenfield case.

The political future of Sharif, who heads the country's most powerful political family and the ruling PML-N party, has been hanging in the balance since his ouster. If convicted, he could be jailed.

Sharif's family alleges that the cases are politically motivated.

how so? When did Sharif stand against establishment? Sharif and family have been beneficiaries of establishment doling out political and financial benefits to this family. This was done in order to build an alternate political force against PPP.

Sharif was the only family whose assets were denationalized by Zia. Nawaz Sharif became first the finance minsiter and then chief minister of Punjab. Sharif's IJI alliance against PPP was given funds through ISI.

There is no political dynasty which is as vile and as corrupt as Sharif family is. They have been brought on corruption. Easy money and easy access to power. Once this mix of easy money and power is given, it breeds more corruption. Today, Sharif clan is a political mafia. It buys journalists, officers, political loyalty, intellect. You name it. Evryone who gives a price, Sharif is willing to buy.

Once this evil cloud of corruption and nepotism is cleared, Pakistan will see light of day. Pakistanis must realize that they have lot more potential and capability then wasting time in defending a corrupt political dynasty which has nothing to offer to Pakistan.

If you are clean, no one can touch you....
Say for example establishment is behind everything, but if sherif's has not done corruption or money laundering, would he ever be be charged.
These cases are genuine, you can say they are shut down when the cut deal with establishment and the cases are opened when they differ from establishment. But the cases are true.
If a clean leadership would come which is actually performing, no one can touch it... Trust me no one can.
Even if establishment would create hurdles, the leadership can face the challenges.
After 70 years your civilian leadership has to only blame and nothing else....
It is pmln government. The leaders have done their work and then leave. Have you ever heard where Obama is? Where bush is?
They have done their term and now gone but their parties are going on producing new leadership.
Leaders must have to realize that they are not someone without which the country cannot run. They must not have the right to stick to the chair forever. One must do it's duty and the leave it for the new comer.
They should also Stop seeing their kids as their next in line.

Establishment was kind on sharifs till he was an acha bacha but when he became a ganda bacha in 1999 ,sharif faced the music. In 2013 Sharif came into power and he was told to be a good boy but he started a case against General Musharraf which kicked of Dharnas , agitations and finally Dawn leaks put the last nail in the coffin when establishment decided to teach a lesson to Sharifs for being non sharifs to establishment . Other wise the judges themselves cant even summon Musharraf or Chairman DHA to their courts.

This is nothing as to what happened to the JFK. Our establishment is lousy and lethargic. This leech should have been squashed long time ago, before he and his other political mafia gangsters raised havoc within the state.

JKT's disqualification was a balancing act and the masters have ordered the court to revisit 621f and he will be back . Establishment has always been going after the political leaders since old times of Hussain shaheed Suharwardy to Fatima Jinnah , FJ to Sheikh Mujeeb , from sh Mujeeb to Bhutto , from Bhutto to Benazir , from Benazir to NS and this is not going to stop anywhere . It will go on and on and on . Establishment is least concerned about corruption , if it is then where is Kiyani brothers ?where is Rizwan Akhtar ?and his brother Imran Akhtar? where is Musharraf ?Real issue is the powers to govern Pakistan and whenever the establishment feels any encroachment, politicians will face the music, everything else is secondary.
