Pakistan Can Manufacture 90pc Drugs Locally

Industrial development is largely about capital investment, technical base, and energy. Generic pharmaceuticals are within our tech base and don't require huge energy resources. Pakistan's major issue is in the capital investment, our financial sector is not really up to the task. Our financial sector is largely risk averse, the wealthy prefer to invest over sees, and we have to keep interests rate high to control inflation. Financial reforms are needed to allow a little more risk in the system.

Semi true.
Also the fact that Pakistan is late to the game.
Two of the biggest markets, India and China have a strong hold on the pharma sectors within their borders. And the biggest market of all USA is highly regulated and the barriers to entry in terms of costs and research is tremendous.
Forget Brazil. ANVISA has one of the hardest approval processes and lethargic to say the least.
China has the largest share of the non regulated markets like Africa for genetics and India has the largest (non American) share of the US and European market.
I believe 30% of US generics are supplied by India.
So the opportunity to compete in market share for Pakistan are dim in terms of exports.
However I agree, the local market should be owned by local Pakistani drug makers. Not sure that will be true now that Pak and China have an FTA. Chinese drugs will be hard to compete with in price and API.

.
A lot of ranting on this thread. Quality medicines made in Pakistan do exist. I can tell that I have relatives in the USA that prefer to use Pakistani made medicated cremes for eczema. They say it works better than what the American doctors prescribe, much cheaper as well.

Generic pharmaceuticals are all about cost. Pakistan just devalued its currency, and is now one of the lower cost producers for a lot of things. If you follow the right chemistry, the drug is the same in USA, Israel, India or Pakistan. I agree pharmaceuticals are highly regulated which I see as a bigger hurdle.

The same ceftriaxone tablet will come for 25inr (good company)
Sad
does not come in tablet and it as expensive as this in india, i checked..how do you think so many indians got billionairs..though quality problems/fakes are much more common in india..something to do with drug base..dont get me wrong india does make quality drugs

Some of Pharma Billionairs in India from one room karyana store.
People like Azim premji supplied thousands of tons of chemicals
Used in Flue tablets. But actually facilitated Meth Mafia.
Back then no regulation was barring them in US.
So those phrama tycons fro. Slums become billionair.
You can say same copy cat was done by Hanif Abassi but not as much higher level.
India kept exporting those chemicals for a decade or two.
And now they consider those tyccons legit.

This is irrelevant as we essentially import different raw materials from across the globe, mainly china, india and korea and then mix them and pack them locally. So we are dependent and exposed to exchange rate and taxation. Till we start making APIs and other inert substances used in the manufacturing process nothing will happen with the prices or the benefit to the masses.
There is a stupid law while allows local pharmaceuticals to get a minimum of X percentage of the main / original product price and this is practiced religiously by all pharmaceuticals. Unfortunately the laws on bio-availability and bio-equivalence are there for the books and files only.

You are correct. Thanks for correcting.
I meant same group drug available as tablet at less price..
Fake drugs are a problem in India but not extensive

ceftriaxone is not available orally bro. 1 gm. Vial cost around ₹50-70 depending on manufacturer.
Thanks for correcting...
I meant same group drug

Lolz read the article naa...so far only license has been issued wonder if their regulation policy is any good or they gonna sell fake shit like milawat wala milk

This will be key. If we manufacture drugs to MHRA (UK), EMA (EU) and FDA (US) standards, we can actually start exporting good quality medication.

A million Iraqis died when the US/Zionists imposed sanctions on Iraq; mainly due to the embaro on drugs. Pakistan is a far larger country, if the same happened to Pakistan the death toll would be far higher. Apart from normal economic reasons, there should be a major push to indiginise drug production. You don't need rocket scientists, simply purchase the licence for them.

100% agree. Development and manufacture of drugs, is an essential industry.

Can’t ban the mega companies unfortunately, otherwise Pak will have no access to any breakthrough drugs.
It’s an unfortunate reality for both India and Pak.
These monopolies have destroyed the whole science...Most prof take grants and scholarships in which they write to make drugs cheaper for third world or low income countries then they patent their research.....I feel such people shouldn't be allowed to do so

Standard is the biggest issue in Pakistan for everything

Would the people buy Pakistan made drugs or prefer imported ones?
Depends...

Quality
Marketing

I do believe we need a slogan like Malaysia boleh to make people believe in our products but first we need to do stemming with quality before we reach marketing and branding

It will take more than slogans, that is for sure, as you mention.

.
we dont..we dont have the capcaity

i know the level of "our research" dont embarrass me
Well if you really know you wouldn't be embarrassed :)

My aunt is a prof in a chem dept in Islamabad and they do extract distill and make compounds on demand but on a very small stage and the number of graduates (yes foreign countries use graduates to start in companies) pak uni produces should be trained at international levels to be able to do so....I am aware our graduates don't reach that level but we also have a high number of postgraduate MPhil and PhD who are jobless.....

All they need is a platform ....

It will take more than slogans, that is for sure, as you mention.
Well that will come eventually but first standards.....Pakistan has zero standards the min hey upscale....I really don't understand why they don't understand the value of high standards...cutting costs sure...put robotics so you don't need to pay wage but don't compromise on standards ...This needs awhole set of brainwashing or something.....

They do understand, but please keep in mind high standards, specially for safety, are costly to implement and difficult to maintain consistently.
