Islamabad has held New Delhi responsible for the delay in the process of granting Most Favoured Nation (MFN) status to India.

Pakistan's Commerce Minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim said India is reluctant to remove non-tariff bearers (NTBs), and as a consequence, the non-availability of a level playing field to Pakistani exporters has delayed the granting of MFN status to India, reports The Express Tribune.

The Commerce Ministry was unable to meet the deadline of December 31, 2012, of granting the MFN status, as it was consulting other ministries and private sector stakeholders to assess and evaluate the level playing field enjoyed by Pakistani exports to India, and to resolve issues of non-tariff barriers being faced by Pakistani exporters and market access of Pakistani products to India.

Fahim said that the ministry will now submit the case to the Cabinet for complete normalisation of trade relations with India in due course. The decision to grant MFN status to India was taken by the Cabinet in its meeting held on November 02, 2011.

First of all,Who ever wrote this article is an idiot. Its not non-tariff bearers but Non-tariff barriers.Secondly the excuse is extremely lame,No country in the world can ever remove all of these Non-tariff barriers.Well may be India can consider removing some specific ones but they are not even mentioned here. Its as if they are trying to fool somebody. If they don't want to give India MFN status they should just tell it to the world.Don't make such stupid excuses.

Did they have a pre condition that the NTB's should be removed before they introduced this bill to their parliament and got it passed? - NO, so this is another one of their topi drama's.

Just be thankful they didn't do a Bushism & call it "terriers & barriffs".

NTB's are not country specific. Just an excuse for lacking the necessary testicular fortitude to push through the MFN status.

NTB's are a a bunch of innovative means to evade free trade rules between different countries. It could be like Import bans,Over-valued currency,Intellectual property laws (patents, copyrights),Restrictive licenses,State subsidies, procurement, trading, state ownership,Export subsidies,Labeling conditions,Product standards etc. They are used to improve the competitiveness of exports and as a means to control the imports in a country favor. It has nothing to do with MFN status. This is just an excuse to drag their feet around on the real issue.

They made a huge hue and cry about the Indian NTB's when their parliament passed the MFN bill, this is just a tactic to scuttle the MFN.
