Two British mountaineers marooned on Hunza Valley’s Ultar Sar Mountain have been located and rescued by teams of the Pakistan Army after their tent was struck by an avalanche.

According to Assistant Commissioner Hunza, the two British mountaineers recognized as Bruce Normand and Timothy Miller are presently on way to Gilgit in an army helicopter.

Adding further he stated: "The body of Austrian mountaineer Christian Huber, who was killed in the incident, is also being taken to Gilgit."

Attempts had been ongoing since Saturday to track down the two trapped mountaineers along with the body of the deceased Austrian climber after an avalanche from 5,900 meters up the Ultar Sar Mountain had struck their tent.

The parlous weather conditions had made it difficult for the Army helicopter to go forth with a rescue operation on the 7,388 meters high Ultar Sar.

The Northern Pakistan is a major attraction for numerous hiking enthusiasts as it dwells one of the highest peaks in the world including the 8,611 meter high K2, known to be the second highest peak in the world.

I hope Pakistan will send the bill too.
That's how it happenz in rest of the world.
Try to get stuck in Switzerland, at any slope of 2000-meter height.
Minimum bill of a minor rescue would be $5000.

Who pays for this stuff?

Its not like travel insurance is paying for These.

How much has the Army spent on These rescue missions?

I got strong views about Army sending it's highly trained men in harms way to save some adrenalin junkies. Would these high ups take full responsibility and put their neck on line if God forbid any harm come to these pilots send on these missions impossible? No one cares in outside world what army did. This will hardly make news in western media.

European mountaineers nearly always have insurance and its standard practice for search and rescue to bill foreigners. Any army guys on here know the specifics?

I highly doubt that travel insurance covers such daring rescues.

Usually there's a separate insurance for risky sports.
All those mountaineers surely don't leave their house without insurance, which covers the cost of rescue and repatriation, ambulance and hospitalization.
If Pakistan send the bill to victim, he'll not pay from his pocket, it will be his insurer who'll pay it.
I hope our educated bureaucrats knows this basic fact.
Otherwise only a hater of Pakistan would not send the bill for expenses incurred.

Good work, but these rescue missions by the army need to stop.

Send the bill and setup some special civilian unit equipped and trained to carry out high altitude rescue missions.

it's not travel insurance, rather expedition insurance in Pakistan if one requires to be searched for in case of an incident

I highly doubt that travel insurance covers such daring rescues.
