Pakistan Army gets social on facebook and twitter
Tuesday July 2, 2013
Realizing the power of social media that has already inspired our politicians and media personalities for creating a huge fan following, Pakistan Army has also jumped into the race by getting active on facebook and twitter.
On the official twitter account of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) which has 8,516 followers and only 149 tweets, it announced the launching of official facebook fan page of Pakistan Army on June 23, 2013 that has 19,413 fans at the moment.
The fan page is run by ISPR that has its own fan page created in July 2012 and has 24,019 fans so far.
According to an official, the purpose of the social media accounts is to interact with people of Pakistan without a third party but mostly there are stories about social work of Pak Army.
The official page says, This page has been launched to provide an open and interactive platform to all users to share their thoughts and opinions. Rest assure that your concerns will be replied back and you will get a feel that organization is listening. While you interact with us we expect that you interact with responsibility and dignity.
I happened to read couple of comments on posts and found that some of the people have used extremely abusive language against the institution that shows either it is not being monitored properly by ISPR or the administrator(s) actually mean it to be an open platform which, in both the cases, need to be addressed as it wont fulfil the purpose of interaction.
