ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military has rejected a report by Amnesty International accusing it of human rights abuses on the Afghan border, calling the allegations a “pack of lies and part of a sinister propaganda campaign” against the armed forces.

In a short statement on Thursday, a spokesman for the armed forces said that the by the London-based human rights group has issued a “biased report based on fabricated stories twisted to serve an agenda”.

According to the report issued earlier today, the Pakistani military and the Taliban are guilty of rights abuses with a lack of justice fuelling a crisis in the tribal areas on the Afghan border.

The military is using new security laws and a colonial-era penal system to act with impunity in the northwestern, semi-autonomous region where Taliban and al Qaeda-linked violence is concentrated, the watchdog said.

The military has arbitrarily detained thousands for long periods with little or no access to due process, said the report, based on interviews with victims, witnesses, relatives, lawyers, officials and militants.

Cases of death and torture have been documented, detainees are not brought before court and relatives have no idea of their fate, sometimes for extended periods of time, said the human rights watchdog.

“Almost every week the bodies of those arrested by the armed forces are being returned to their families or reportedly found dumped across the tribal areas,” said Polly Truscott, Amnesty’s deputy Asia-Pacific director.

“The government must immediately reform the deeply flawed legal system in the tribal areas that perpetuates the cycle of violence,” she added.

Although judges have sought to investigate the fate of people who go missing, Amnesty said no military personnel had been prosecuted for alleged torture, enforced disappearance or deaths in custody.

It demanded the repeal of sweeping powers of arrest and detention given to the armed forces in 2011, and called on the jurisdiction of the courts and parliament to be extended to the tribal areas.

Pakistan says more than 35,000 people have been killed as a result of terrorism in the country since the 9/11 attacks on the United States and that its forces have for years been fighting homegrown militants in the northwest.

Amnesty also singled out the Taliban and other militant groups for targeting human rights activists, aid workers, journalists and alleged spies.

It also reported that the Taliban had brutally executed captured Pakistani troops in contravention of international humanitarian law.

PA is fighting a war on terror for the last 10+ years with thousands of lost lives and injuries. Terrorists don't follow Jeneva convention in their attacks against innocent civilians, Amnesty can stuff that report up it arse and suck our dicks.

What Amnesty international doesn't understand writing it's reports in air conditioned offices in london is the realities of fighting an insurgencies in civilian areas. Counter insurgency is an internal matter, if amnesty is not happy with what pakistani military is doing, may be they should trade places with pakistani army for a month and see how they fare.

Indeed a pack of big lies.

Our army's area denial strategy for the journalists and media persons and their unflinching support for drone attacks inside Pakistan is also a big pack of lies.

Just new tactics by the enemies of Pakistan to hurt the image of Pakistan. Total BULLSH!T & pure lies.

Well , the problem we have is

a) There is issue of Kidnapping
b) Who is kidnapping people
c) This issue is been brought up before are the kidnappings political where is the police ?

The problem is that Pakistan's Police and City wide intelligence is weak

If Amnesty is stating people are getting kidnapped or missing

Well we know USA even kidnapped and transferred people out of Pakistan could these kidnapping related to covert CIA operation or merely political kidnappings

In Any case , I think the correct response is to make police Strong in Pakistan

I saw few documentries of Pakistani police and the police stations I mean they still use paper and pencil enough said

The realy question is " who " is conducting the kidnappings or political assasinations ?

Pakistan's Army is a Professional Outfit , and it is Pack of lies because Army's role is to protect the border and security they do not have time to kidnap people

The police should bear the burden of catching the kidnappers and Police in Pakistan needs 3-4 Billion in order to make them up to world standard in 3-5 years

There is real and present danger from USA and NATO who are arming up Insurgents / terrorist and calling them freedom fighters acorss Libya, Egypt , Syria etc and even in Balouchistan

If Amnesty is pointing towards kidnapping we should get Police and Pakistan's intelligence to capture CIA culprits who are financing and supporting these kidnappings

We have to call an apple an apple and orange an orange

> Who kidnaps people and flies them in black hawk helicopters out of Pakistan = USA
> Who conducts Military opertion on Srilankan cricket team = RAW, response to mumbai
> Who is supporting Balouch terrorism = USA providing wepons
> Who kidnaps people from homes = USA
> Who has laws that "allow" detention with out cause = USA

So we should Thank Amnesty and send USA a memo and tell them to please stop kidnapping people , its getting out of control

Amnesty International has accused the
Pakistani military of carrying out widespread
human rights abuses in the country's
northwest tribal region, where the army is
fighting domestic Taliban fighters.
The UK-based human rights group also
criticised the Taliban for a range of rights
abuses, including the killing of captured
soldiers and innocent civilians.
In the report, entitled The Hands of Cruelty ,
Amnesty said the military had regularly held
people without charges and tortured, or
otherwise mistreated them, in custody.
"Far from bringing respect for the rule of
law, it is clear that current armed forces
practices, and the legal and administrative
system applied in the Tribal Areas, foster a
climate of total impunity for human rights
violations," the group said.
"Men and boys allegedly arrested and
detained by the armed forces are being
returned dead to their families or
reportedly found dumped across the Tribal
Areas almost every week.
"Detainees who are released alive and their
families are threatened with dire
consequences if they speak publicly about
their treatment in detention."
In a statement sent to the media, the
military rejected the
allegations, calling Thursday's report "a
pack of lies" and part of a "sinister
propaganda campaign against Pakistan and
its armed forces".
'Legal cover'
The army and the Taliban have been
engaged in a bloody fight in the northwest
for the past several years.
The fighters have carried out scores of
attacks around the country that have left
thousands of people dead.
Amnesty acknowledged the challenge that
Pakistan is facing in fighting the Taliban
along its border with Afghanistan.
But it criticised the government and the
military for failing to investigate the alleged
abuses.
It also said a combination of new security
laws and colonial-era regulations often
provided the military a legal cover for
abuse.
The rights group said it was unaware of any
serving or retired member of the military,
law enforcement authorities or intelligence
services being prosecuted for alleged
involvement in unlawful detentions, torture
or other ill-treatment.
"Without urgent action by the Pakistan
government to guarantee respect for human
rights in the Tribal Areas, millions will
continue to be locked in a perpetual state of
lawlessness," said Amnesty.
The report was largely based on more
than 100 testimonies from victims of human
rights violations in detention, witnesses,
relatives, lawyers, Pakistani officials and
fighters.

Here is the lie.........

this proves that this is a usual western propaganda, anti muslim and anti pakistan report.

None of the western journalist has ever traveled there nor any other organization so how dis they interviewed them?
Then they say in the report that they have the testimony of people in detention:rofl:, witnessess,Army officers and fighters:rofl::rofl::rofl:

Tell me, which western reporter has guts to go there???
And if they did go there then how did they traveled there as that area is very dangerous according to west themselves:rofl:.
The western people piss in their pants when somebody talks about going to those places.
and acording to this report someone has come, took all the supposidly ''interviews'' and gone back un heart and without taliban noticing and kidnapping that cult himself:lol:.
I think somebody had just a dream last night and wrote his dream in this report in the morning.

What's their opinion about NATO forces doing in Afghanistan where daisy cutters were dropped and carpet bombing done against innocent citizens indiscriminately. Some soldier go psycho, picks up weapon and kills as many as he can. Bagram jail is following human rights. These are all foreign policy tool , today its human rights and few years back it was child labour.

whether the report is a pack of lies or not, one thing is crystal clear - when these 'goons' kill and maim innocent elder men, women and children, then they dont desrve any 'human rights' - these people are not human, they are sub-human and the security forces are doing a great job - eliminate with extreme prejudice!

amnesty international can stick it where the sun dont shine!

and what about guantanamo, baghdad and baghram detention centers - these places are fine examples of 'human rights'

they can bash but let these whites few days live in NW so they will think before bash pak army at next time
