A tank is a mobile artillery piece and should not be deployed in a circumstance where’s it unqiue advantage is nullified

If you are going to use a tank as a fixed artillery piece something is wrong

However it’s only one tank not a entire division and it’s old version

as such it provides a good learning and training experience most likely firing in a downward elevation something tanks rarely do and this is why it was probably deployed there in the first place

its an old tank and thats the best way of cashing it .

Recon sniper indeed. Iv seen video clips of al zaraar shooting up hill 3 kilometers on mountain top precise hit by pakistani armored core. Never seen a down hill shot. Since pakistaniz maintain and make our own tanks , i would not be surprised if that old tin can had thermal eyes and battlefield awareness via drone images. Pakistan army is one battle hardened force to be reckoned with.
No matter old or new weapons these men use weapons as if they were extensions of themselves.

Use of tanks as guns for the defense is not new. In the biggest tank battle of the world (Kursk, 1943) Russian employed Tanks & Self –propelled guns in dug-in position as part of "deep defense" against the German Blitzkrieg tank attack.

UCAV and attack helicopters can't give you that dominating, visible and ever present show of force and intimidation that would deter anyone from across the border from getting any bright ideas...tanks do. Psychological warfare...

That is amazing. Terrific idea to keep the military personnel warn in a sheltered tank while providing the muscle power (armor) needed to blow the Afghan Terrorist to smithereens.

It is a smart use of a tank to monitor the high altitude border in inhospitable environment as an artillery backup.

They are probably using a heating system. They must have refurbished the tank for the climate. Otherwise it will be a metal fridge and an ice coffin.

I don't think it will be running the engine for heating purposes because tanks aren't exactly fuel efficient.

some kind of basic power can be produced from a small APU to power the imaging devices and crew heating. It may be possible they have an external generator nearby to heat up the crew. 12,000 feet is an intense battlefield position to guard. not only heating, but oxygen generation and resupply of food and equipment maybe needed.

Any reason why that position needs to be held in winter? where is it along the border? Does Pakistan face attack in that sector, and if so, couldn't they secure it in a counter-attack with troops from a nearby fort and air support?
