Karachi, Feb 10 (PTI) Pakistan today arrested 11 Indian fishermen and seized their two boats for allegedly fishing in its territorial waters.
The country's Maritime Security Agency, which apprehended the fishermen off the main port city of Karachi on the Arabian Sea coast, handed them over to the police station here for further legal action, police officer Kamran Afzal said.

Indian fishermen had been warned "time and again not to indulge in illegal fishing" but they repeatedly entered the zone to take advantage of rich fish resources at the mouth of the Indus delta, Maritime Security Agency official Mohammad Tariq said.

At least 11 Indian fishermen were arrested here on Friday for illegally trawling in Pakistani waters.

Last month, four incidents of Indian fishermen being caught in Pakistani waters had occurred in which 26 fishermen were arrested and sent to jail.

Scores of fishermen from both sides get arrested every year on the charges of illegally fishing in each other's waters.

However, India and Pakistan have recently initiated steps for the speedy release of the fishermen, who often languish in jail for months.

They (Paksitanis) are not fishermen?

What are they?

fisherfolks?

What is your aim, my friend?

Are you a Bangladeshi or are you Pakistan's advocate?

Let's also hear something from you about Bangladesh.

All I see is your acting on behalf of Pakistani news and Paksitan issues.

I am sure there is something worthwhile happening in Bangladesh that you could share with us.

That jumping bannana of yours is surely backfiring and you keelhauling yourself on its skin!

Call me Slim. Heard of him and his book?

Since Pakistani are not fisherman. :victory:

this type of incidence is not uncommon. srilankan fishermen sometimes cross into indian waters by mistake. i dunno about pakistani or bangladeshis, but i'm sure they make mistakes too.

its easy to cross into another nations' waters by mistake since there are no borders or fences or the like. to punish them over that would be too harsh. a warning would be enough

Yes BD fishermen sometimes stray into Indian waters or take refuge during storms(that is a plus point),and also Indian fishermen have been known to fish in waters close to the Barisal coast.

Are Pak-Ind maritime borders demarcated?

.
They do stray, but then they are not totally innocent, be they of any country of origin which strays.

Even a stint in foreign jails do not change their mindset, possibly because fishing is their livelihood. They are also known to be part of smuggling syndicates.

Nafeez,

It is a Pakistani forum, but fortunately, it has graduated to a very high level of fora activity wherein it discusses international events with equal fervour as Pakistani events.

Therefore, one sure would love to hear about your country also. I am not to sure if you have stated any discussion about your "beloved country" (or words to that effect) as you put it.

No there is an ongoing dispute over the Sir Creek.

.
Good show.

Hopefully, the same thing is not done by India.

Sir this not new thing. The same practice is going on otherside of the border.
Both India and Pakistan do arrest and seize fishing boats of one another's country and arrest fishers over violation of their territorial waters.

Later these fishermen are released with a warning sometimes back on eve of Dewali and Eid occasions i think Pakistan not only released Indian fishermen but also gave them gifts.

.
Same stuff with India releasing and giving presents.

A big charade.

I believe as most of the fishermen are either illetrate or ignorant of water terrotorial boundries coupled with desire to earn some livelihood hence they tresspass.
i think there should be some solution to this as arrest of poor fishermen on both sided and seizing their boats are only adding to economic problems for their families.

Frankly Jana, I doubt they are as ignorant as they are being made out to be. They've been fishing for years, and I'm sure they know where the territorial waters end.

I suspect that in order to increase the quantity of their catch, they venture into relatively untapped(if thats the right word) waters, and risk getting caught.

I also agree with it. They have been fishing for so long, they should by now know it where they can and cannot go, and its not that they dont know, its just that they become greedy. That is why they say lalach buri ballah ha.
