Pak worried of 'robust', 'multifaceted' Indo-US ties: Haqqani - Yahoo! India News

Islamabad, Nov.13 (ANI): Pakistan's Ambassador to the United States Husain Haqqani has said that Islamabad is worried by the strengthening Indo-US ties.

Describing Indo-US ties as 'robust' and 'multifaceted', Haqqani pointed out that strong ties between India and the US is one of the biggest causes of worries for Islamabad.

"Pakistan is wary of the Indo-U.S. relationship, which is robust and multifaceted, and the US would have to treat Pakistan at par to win over Pakistani trust. India is Boeing's largest customer, and also that 26 members of the Obama administration are Indian-American. Facts like these naturally make Pakistan nervous," Haqqani said. (Now how come Boeing comes into picture here? And treating Pakistan on par with India for what? How does Pakistan get automatically qualified for anything which India gets?

According to The Hill, a US newspaper that covers the US Congress, Haqqani during a roundtable discussion, reviewed Pakistan's current status and 'offered a candid assessment of where the country stands.'

Washington should not ignore Islamabad's concerns about country's sovereignty and the impending threat from neighbouring states, he added.

Haqqani pointed out that Pakistanis believed that the US has long 'used' their country and not considered it as an ally.

Describing US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent Pakistan tour as 'significant', he said Clinton had tried her best to demonstrate that the Obama administration is genuinely concerned with Pakistan's welfare and development.

"One high-profile visit is unlikely to do much, because many of Pakistan's difficulties are historically rooted. Pakistanis had no idea what suicide bombers were prior to 9/11. The U.S. supported radical Islamists in their fight against the Soviet Union, but it is precisely those extremists who are now waging jihad across the globe, including in Pakistan. Many Pakistanis regard the Taliban as an existential threat to their country," the Nation quoted Haqqani, as saying. (ANI)

Drifting towards India? Tell me you are joking. Exactly what actions of US, in terms of Indo-Pak issues, make US pro-India? None, per what I know. US has long ignored India's concerns that US aid money is being used for militarization against India. And, more aid is still coming in.

The other relations between India & US like nuclear deal, economic ties, defense ties are in a different dimension altogether & should not affect Pakistan.

And boy, India being largest customer of Boeing ought to be the hottest issue in Pakistan :lol:

Precisly thats my point. Pakistan suddnly finds its long time partner slowly getting cozy with India(arch rival). For whatever reasons.
This is a cause of major discomfort for Pakistani ruling class. As India gains importance Pakistan takes a backstage. and this is not going to happen overnight. Its a slow process which has allready begun.

How are you sure about whats taught in Pakistan. At the most you have read some media reports claiming that Pakistan books prech hate India . And thats about it.

Though some leadership issues are there, most of Pakistanis want to live their life happily without being scared of death and terrorisim.

Pakistan has to contribute to world economy in a bigger way to make sure that It is treated aat par with its arch rival. If that is done no on is going to have issues.

I don't think Boeing would mind having Pakistan as one of their biggest customer. Its all about money.

US cannot afford to ignore Pakistan’s concerns: Haqqani | Pakistan | News | Newspaper | Daily | English | Online

"
Haqqani noted that India is perhaps the biggest elephant in the room. “Pakistan is wary of the Indo-U.S. relationship, which is robust and multifaceted,” and the US would have to treat Pakistan at par to win over Pakistani trust. He mentioned that India is Boeing’s largest customer, and also that 26 members of the Obama administration are Indian-American. Facts like these naturally make Pakistan nervous, the envoy explained to the U.S. influentials. As much as it is concerned with India , Pakistan is also anxious to see how its relationship with the U.S. evolves. Haqqani said Pakistanis want to receive credit for their counterterrorism efforts. Pakistan has killed or captured more al Qaeda leaders than has any other country. He concluded by saying that the U.S. won’t truly be able to win hearts and minds there until it adopts a more comprehensive engagement strategy

The sad thing is if you look at the big picture this is exactly what Ghandhiji and Maulana Azad e.t.c. predicted. Instead of all the south Asian people presenting a united front sharing similar cultural background and helping and supporting each other. A foreign power has to come to our shores just like at the time of the British where local kingdoms were pitted against each other for their benefit. Wether it be the US or China, its the people of south Asia who loose ultimately. Particular in the case of Pakistan where it becomes more and more heavily reliant on foreign powers and interference in its internal affairs because of this.

Well back to topic, as long as private militias are not used and supported Haqqani shouldn't have anything to fear.

As an ambassador it seems he is doing the his government a great disservice by making it known in no uncertain terms that he believes the Pakistani people suffer a childlike inferiority complex vis-a-vis India.

It's also a tad bit crass or undiplomatic pointing out the ethnic heritage of American officials in the Obama Administration as to call into question their allegiances. You won't see the Egyptian or Saudi Ambassadors count out and chastise us for having a number of Jewish Americans in the administration, at least not publicly.

Pakistan crying again?

Nothing new.

More like calling for an end to double standards and hypocrisy - why is calling for an end to that 'crying' to you?

I suspect the whole point was to flame, not actually make a sensible point.

Take this as a warning for any future comments along these lines.
