The title says it all. It's a matter of fact: the overwhelming majority of Muslims worldwide do not sympathize with China. The country, the culture, the language, its traditions, its foreign and domestic policy - simply everything that is related to Chinese state or its society is unpopular.

What are the reasons behind this rejection?

Main reason for this negative attitude towards China lies in the fact that the Chinese one-party government suppresses innocent Muslims. Everybody recognises that the ethnic Uygurs in East Turkestan are still being persecuted.

From Balkan and Anatolia to Central Asia, the Turkic people don't tolerate Chinese. Even if the political elites of the Turkic states negotiate with China, the common people whether Shiite or Sunni do not like the Chinese nation. It would be quite mistaken to believe that this view of China is a "Turkish thing".

The majority of Sunni Arabs share the same opinion. China acts as a supporter of Russia and Assad. In the eyes of the Sunni Arabs, the Syrian crisis is to a large extent the co-responsibility of Russia's and Chinas's irresponsible and crazy Middle East policies.

Not only Arabs and Turks have their problems with the Chinese. Chinese ships violating the maritime sovereignty of Malaysia. Muslim majority countries in Southeast Asia like Indonesia and Brunei also criticize China’s claim on South China Sea.

The only Muslim state that currently has a very good relationship with China is Pakistan. What consequences will this have for the reputation of Pakistan in the Muslim world? The Indian government under Modi is not as stupid as we always believe. They will try to use these different positions for their own goals. It's just a matter of time before India on the one side and Turkey, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia on the other side begin to cooperate.

The United Arab Emirates have already begun closer cooperation with India.

What you guys think about this topic?

China is undeniably an emergent global economic and industrial super power. China doesn't need to worry about what the muslim world thinks, sometimes you have to crack a few eggs to make an omelette.

LOL, Clearly all Muslim countries enjoy democracy, so naturally they will have a problem with China one party government. Now if i could think of any other country other then China thats going after extremist Muslims. No nothing comes to mind.

Well since the US and Russia has waged war almost uninterrupted for decades now, and they still have friends. I'm sure we'll be fine.

This is the problem I find with Turkish people, who died and made you king.

China has had ran ins with US, Japan, and whatever else, but not once did we shoot down anyone's aircraft. We had confrontations with Indians, but no shot has been fired since post cold war. Chinese overseas had been killed and discriminated against, but we don't interfere with others domestic policy. It's not our place.

This Turkish mentality is weird in the sense in economic, political, and military terms, Turkey stands nowhere near the major powers of the world. All you're really doing is pissing off the major powers, while having no real effect on any of the major powers.

You want to say something about Chinese policy on Xinjiang, be a great power, then we'll talk.

On to your topic, Pakistan's reputation is fine. Unless I woke up in Narnia this morning, power still reign supreme. Pakistan's public opinion will rise and fall with its success and failure of its domestic policies, not some public opinion poll.

What China is doing wrong is peanuts against what a country like USA have done/doing... USA have killed so many muslims around the world, and still GCC are running after them as their pets.....

Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Iran are involved in wide scale murder and terror in Syria.

This is not a conspiracy. Its a fact. Whats going in Syria has been a big disappointment. Instead of Muslim countries helping a fellow Muslim country, they are ripping that country apart.

In this context, what perception Muslim countries have about China holds no meaning. This world is about money and economy. China being one of the biggest economies of the world has considerable clout which you will have accept begrudgingly.

What China is doing allegedly to Muslims in its borders pales in comparison to what Saudi Arabia and Iran are doing using religion to foment hatred and incite violence in Muslim world.

For most Pakistanis, our close relationship with China is not something to be taken lightly, we take it very seriously now.
They are part of our future, where the Arab nations may fit in the picture 20 years from now, where Afghanistan and Iran fit is uncertain, though I personally see things improving... no matter these variables, the China-Pakistan partnership is a constant factor, the Chinese are committed, and we are beyond grateful for it. There is a reason we have a Chinese flag on this forum.

But, none of this closeness to China, has ever had us worried about our relations with the Muslim world, with Turkey for example, in fact, I hadn't ever considered this until you asked just now.

Besides, different peoples and nations have grievances that vary amongst each other, China will find supporters in the Muslim world and people who aren't as comfortable with it. But none of these nations can afford to go forward without having serious relations with China, and this they realise. I would say, China's standing in the Muslim world is far better than the US', far better than the EU's, or Russia. Granted, the US has the GCC and the leadership on its side too. The people of the Middle East however, are weary of superpowers and their games, but China least of all such, they are best placed it seems to me.

How will Pakistan react when the Chinese say one day: we do not want you to talk to the Indonesians, Turks, Arabs, etc.? Believe me, that will happen.

Well, considering that all of the Muslim countries you mentioned except Pakistan have recognized israel and established cordial relations with it in one form or another i don't think the people or governments of those countries are in any position to criticize Pakistan's strong relations with China.

Pakistan does not recognize israel in order to appease Arabs, Pakistan does not recognize Armenia in order to appease Turks, but Turks and Arabs not only recognize india but also have economic relations with that country.

Pakistan ruined its relations with Iran for the sake of Saudis and other GCC countries and this has harmed our economy for decades and incited sectarian divide within our society, why should we care what the Muslim world now thinks of China? Should we antagonize our only friendly neighbor for the sake of a hypocritical brotherhood?

Considering that Muslim brother countries can backstab each other the way Turkey and Arabs have been doing with fellow Muslim countries like Gaddafi's Libya and Assad's Syria, why should Pakistan put its trust in such backstabbing countries?

UAE's government was ready to trash us as soon as we refused to get involved in their failed war in Yemen and they began to cozy up with our enemy india. This is so called Muslim brother hood.

The Chinese aren't petty, they're smart, and place their interests first, they would not hold these petty disputes if it got in the way of business, China is making huge efforts to get in roads in the Middle East, and Africa, of which Pakistan is a part of, I do not see this scenario of yours happening.

Also, Pakistan will probably do all that it can to bring its allies together, we did this for China and the US back in 1972 with Nixon.

Chinese are stubborn but they are not stupid. This is the nation of Sun Zi Bingfa, Zongshu and Confucius and the likes of Zheng He. They understand the importance of "global outlook". As one Chinese friend once told me, "we were sailing in strong winds and trading globally, when British were still painting faces and F***** sheep", ( no offence to any brit's here).

The Chinese know the importance of expansion of friends, that is why they have been happy to court UK, USA, India, Russia, all in a very calculated power play. What the Chinese state does with the muslim tartar's in Urumqi is an internal affair, besides just look back at history and you will find western and progressive "muslim" nations have done far worse.

Believe, you are a white washed anti China loser. China is never anti muslim. What China hate is separatism of the country which no any other country can tolerate. Muslim exist in China many centuries with blessing from even our emperor. The famous Zheng He is a good example.

Does uyghur muslim represent all muslim in China? No. You shall check out the hui Muslim in ningxia and Xi an muslim who never have a separatism problem with CPC.
