It hate to put it. Even ten nukes - one each on Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jaipur, Agra, Bhopal, Surat, Jammu and Kanpur will set India back by a decade
All major wars set economies back by a few years to a few decades. The difference is in how much damage you can do to your enemy in return and how well/quickly you can reconstruct post war. That loss can be recouped, and in exchange you no longer have an enemy, so more funds can be used for reconstruction. Look at Japan and the post war economies of Europe as an example. WW2 saw more damage than any Indo-Pak war will.
Earlier, we had three fronts, W. Pak, E. Pak and China. After 1971, we had only W. Pak and China. In case of a new Indo-Pak war, we will have only one front, China. We can directly cut our army's expenditure by half if Pak is no longer a threat. We won't need those expensive strike corps for our western border, we will only need frontier troops. Rather money can be spent on expeditionary capabilities and building up defensive capabilities on the Chinese border.
