Pak-India airspace closure: National institutions suffer Rs2.55b loss

KARACHI: Pakistan and India have closed their airspace for each other for the last two weeks after rise of tension between the two countries due to which the national institutons of Pakistan have suffered losses of Rs2.55 billion.

The airlines and civil aviation authorities of both the countries are enduring massive losses. The flights between Europe to Far-East are not only facing massive financial losses, but the flight duration has also increased, while the airlines have also increased their ticket prices. The schedule of the airlines flying on these routes has also been affected.

The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suffered loss of Rs1.05 billion due to closure of certain routes for the airline, while the Civil Aviation Authority of Pakistan has incurred a loss of around Rs1.5 billion so far due to prevailing tension.

Only few large airports are still open, while the airlines are now using long routes due to which the air travel duration has increased, which has resulted into increase in air fares. Only the PIA is suffering a loss of over 70 million on daily basis in the head of fuel charges.

Indian losses will be humongous as compared to Pakistan's.
  • India flies more flights over Pakistan than Pakistan does over India, and
  • Popular flight destinations (Middle east, Europe, Americas) lie on Pakistan side and there are more Indians travelling through Pakistani airspace than Pakistani travellers travelling through Indian airspace to reach Bangladesh, Myanmar, Thailand etc.
Pakistan can keep its airspace locked and watch India suffer from its own anger.

Pakistan can keep its airspace locked much longer and watch India suffer from its own anger.
As percentage of revenue PIA losses has been four times higher than Air India's.

LOL - is Indian interest demanding to think about Pakistan's benefit now? While India still has its stupid had on, wouldn't it want to see Pakistan "suffer" much longer?

PIA has been suffering for a while...what is news is Air india :pop:

Seems bogus I am sure there are losses (because of the extended route) but Pia has not filed a corporate report since 3Q2017. I am not sure if it flies eastwards and how much. This should end in the end of March. Right now we are using the parade as an excuse. The purpose of the NOTAM was perhaps similar...making it inconvenient for airliners directing the fallout to Indian saber rattling.

India has so many airlines . Losses are not at all significant to bother anybody to count.

PIA was already in loss but how can Indians calculate these losses in view of airspace closure. I see most of Pakistan Airlines earns through Dubai bound flights or in other words, very less or none to do with India's airspace closure. Geography is paying well this time and for sure, to put some sense in India.

Speaking of Indian Airlines, like this one...

they are suffering because all the airspace was closed for any flight for couple of days that is the main reason of losses..

as for PIA flights to east asia, PIA had fewer flight to that region and sometime they fly once a week.
The main traffic route for PIA is to ME and EU.

It's a sad state of affairs when we start competing over who is losing more. Our rivalry should be about who is gaining/profiting more.
