'Mehmood Qureshi underlined that the steps taken by India in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir entailed grave risk for peace and security in the region'

Pakistani Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi held a phone conversation with his Bangladeshi counterpart Dr AK Abdul Momen to discuss the current situation in the Indian-administered Kashmir.

"The (Pakistani) Foreign Minister apprised his Bangladeshi counterpart of the illegal and unilateral actions of India to alter the disputed status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was in contravention of the international law and UNSC resolutions," said a statement posted on Foreign Ministry of Pakistan website on Tuesday.

"The Foreign Minister [Mehmood Qureshi] highlighted continuously deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including severe shortage of food and lifesaving medicines, communications blackout and complete lock-down for the last 30 days," added the statement.

"He [Mehmood Qureshi] underlined that the steps taken by India in the Occupied Jammu and Kashmir entailed grave risk for peace and security in the region," said the statement.

"The Bangladeshi Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and discussions. The two ministers agreed to remain in contact," it added.

ISLAMABAD/KARACHI, Pakistan

Pakistani foreign minister on Tuesday discussed the deteriorating situation in disputed Jammu and Kashmir with top diplomats from several Muslim nations.

In separate telephone conversations with his Turkish, Iranian and Bangladeshi counterparts, Shah Mehmood Qureshi brought the latest situation in the Indian-administered Kashmir forefront, according to his office.

During his talk with Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu -- second time over the last week --, Qureshi apprised him of "gross human rights violations in the occupied Kashmir, and escalating instability in the region", the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The massive security lockdown since Aug. 5 had caused an acute shortage of food, medicines, and other basic necessities of life in the picturesque Himalayan valley, Qureshi told Cavusoglu.

"The unarmed Kashmiri Muslims have been looking towards the international community, mainly the Muslim world [to put pressure on India]", the statement added.

Noting Turkey's role for unity among Muslim countries, Qureshi once again thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for supporting his country's stance in the current crisis and raising voice in support of Kashmiris at all forums.

He also stressed that the two countries shared similar views on many regional and international issues, and they had supported each other in hard times.

The two foreign ministers agreed to continue the bilateral discussions on Kashmir, and to meet during the UN General Assembly session next month.

Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif, in his conversation with Islamabad's top diplomat, expressed his "deep concern" over current crisis in Jammu Kashmir cautioning that these steps would add to already heightening tensions in the region, Pakistani foreign ministry said in another statement.

Qureshi briefed his Bangladeshi counterpart AK Abdul Momen on the "illegal and unilateral actions of India" to alter the status of Jammu and Kashmir, which was in "contravention of the international law and UNSC [UN Security Council] resolutions", said the ministry in a third statement.

"The foreign minister highlighted continuously deteriorating human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir, including severe shortage of food and lifesaving medicines, communications blackout and complete lock-down for the last 30 days.

"The Bangladeshi foreign minister emphasized the importance of resolving disputes through dialogue and discussions. The two ministers agreed to remain in contact," the statement read.

Jammu and Kashmir is under near-complete lockdown since Aug. 5 when India scrapped the special provisions, according to several rights group, including the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International.

India blocked communications and imposed strict restrictions to thwart any rebellion while political leaders in the region have been detained as the right groups repeatedly called on New Delhi to lift the restrictions and release political detainees.

From 1954 until Aug. 5, 2019, Jammu and Kashmir had special provisions under which it enacted its own laws. The provisions also protected the region's citizenship law, which barred outsiders from settling in and owning land in the territory.

India and Pakistan both hold Kashmir in parts and claim it in full. China also controls part of the contested region, but it is India and Pakistan who have fought two wars over Kashmir in 1947 and 1965.

Some Kashmiri groups in Jammu and Kashmir have been fighting against Indian rule for independence or for unification with neighboring Pakistan.

According to several human rights groups, thousands of people have been killed in the conflict in the region since 1989.

I concur. There is all this 'apprising' going on. Maybe Bangladesh could have acted as peace intermediary (like the Swiss) after what is about to happen - but I doubt it at this juncture. :-)

. . .
Bangladesh is firmly in India's camp, and despite their people not being pro-India, their government definitely is.

So I hope Qureshi used WhatsApp or Skype and the Pak government didnt actually pay for this international call :hitwall:

Nothing is about to happen. Pakistan will raise it in international forums without much success and eventually suck it up.

What a waste of a call. Bangladesh doesn't give a squat about Kashimir.
Oh God, what a waste of time calling BD. Pakistan FM needs to get his priorities right and stop wasting valuable time.

Agree, Dhaka already said it's India's internal matter as it believes maintaining regional peace and stability, as well as development should be a priority for all countries. Even if Bangladesh support Pakistan on Kashmir issue what benefit it will get as relation on various sector is getting deeper between two neighbor countries? I don't remember Pakistan talking about Rohingya issue or supplying their jointly built fighter to Myanmar before. Instead they made quite a fuss over our war crime tribunal. Why Pakistanis get upset now if we don't support them on Kashmir issue?

Even one of your own believes it too. Quite sensible kid.

I have something to say regarding the ethnic identity of the rohingya Muslims. The rohingyas claim that they are natives of Arakan but if you go to Arakan you will find no historical mosques, or any traces of any Islamic heritage in that place. But there are many Buddhist heritage in Arakan which existed for thousands of years like Bagan, Mahamuni Buddha etc. Does that mean rakhines are indigenous of Arakan?

The very fact that u want to go back in history to determine who belongs where is sickening. By that logic budhist covered all Pakistan and should we just hand it over to u? Mayanmar was a british colony and whoever moved or lived anywhere have the right to belong to that area as partition was done. I thought budhist were smart but they are dumb and racist. Stop this muslim hatred and instead give rohingya their rights and make then citizens. These muslim minority can help u have good relations with muslim world and rich countries like GCC. Instead dumb and racist narrow minded ppl decided to target them. Now mayanmar will have to deal with a rising insurgency.

Your country sold them warplanes when they were slaughtering the Rohingya Muslims and now you want to give them a lecture?

On topic: Is there anybody in the world that the Pakistani FM hasn't spoken to about the Kashmir issue?

I'm not saying that whatever Myanmar did was correct but the thing is that the rohingyas claimed that they have been living their since the 12th century when there is no adequate proof of their claim.

China sold them as china is also half owner. What i represent is the sentiments of people, not the government.
And its an FM's job to talk to everyone. Kashmir has just started to get highlighted.

BTW the rohingyas are also not out of fault. They should've been loyal to Burma instead of trying to chalk out separate state for themselves in Arakan. Come to Coxs Bazaar and see for yourself. The Chittagong region of Bangladesh is already a hellhole. These rohingyas are doing all sorts of crime like selling drugs, robbery, murder etc. The local bengalis are now living an insecured life because of these people.

These rohingyas are not all innocent.
